Shutter Count on Metadata Elements 18

I recently switched from Picasa to Elements 18. On Picasa, the metadata showed my shutter count. On Elements 18, in the expanded view, there is a lot more information but no shutter count. Any thoughts? Thanks Bob

I don't think any Adobe product will show shutter count. You'll need a 3rd party utility.

Interesting. Elements 18 does so much more than Picasa and yet does not have shutter count. Thanks Bob

Maybe Adobe didn't think it was as important as the other things it does.

What's so strange is that Adobe includes all sorts of Metadata that even most of the experts on this site would not know what it is, but they don't, I think, include a number that most of us would easily like to know.

The shutter count on my EOS is not easily retrievable. So I just use the image number because it increments with each shutter click. I'll just note when it rolls over and change the prefix it adds to the file name. I suppose that will work as long as I don't have to do a factory reset, which may reset the number.

The OP has a Nikon, and the shutter count is included in the EXIF data, he just needs software that will display it, for which there are many options.

Canon is harder, but there are readily available solutions to provide that, although most have a modest fee.

Will it be different than the image number, providing it has not been reset?

Quite possibly. Image number does not cover video or live view actuations, so depending on usage the numbers could vary significantly.

We recently had a guy wanting to sell a used 7D mkII on UHH. He thought the camera had less than 200 clicks, but wouldn't spend < $10 on software that would give a precise answer. After two weeks of frustration he eventually went to a photo store and was told that it was 15,500. Go figure.

Hmmm. In my case it must be pretty close because I don't recall creating a video, and I've only used live view maybe a dozen or so times.
That's good to know, thanks.

Welcome. I can track our T2i, T3i, 80D cameras, and even an old Canon P&S. I use Magic Lantern on cameras that it "supports" and the information correlates.

I have a Nikon D5100. I also use Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC. If I examine the metadata in Lightroom, I don't get the shutter count.

However, if I go to Photoshop, examing the Raw Metadata, the is a field titled something like "shutter actuations." That seems to be the number of shutter actuations on the camera.

I have a T1i...
(I can't believe it will be eight years old in five months!)

15,500 versus 200. Bit of a miscount!

7DII use a weird alpha-numeric file naming system. That would make it pretty much impossible to use to estimate usage, so maybe that's what he was using.

Still, the 7DII is rated to be able to do 200,000 clicks, so 15,500 clicks is what I'd call "low mileage". It basically means that the camera has at least 92% of it's "life" remaining (and probably will do even more).

Besides, I took almost 9000 shots with my two 7DII at a two-day event a few weeks ago.

I can estimate the clicks on mine simply by the total # of files in my 2017 and 2018 Lightroom catalogs. Just so happened that I upgraded to the 7DII's in early 2017, so nearly everything over those two years was shot with them. Total is skewed a little by files I've deleted on the one hand, but skewed back the other way by a relatively small number of images in those catalogs that were made with other cameras.

Which camera did Picasa give you the shutter count on?
