You have me excited, my wife and I are going in September!!

My wife and I were in Yellowstone in September 2015 for about 10 days. It is a great time to be there. Crowds are smaller, getting the shot you want is often easier. Plan on traffic delays as bison rule the road and seem to delight in slowing down the autos.

Be prepared for weather changes. We experienced a few days in the 80's, then a few days of cold rain and nighttime snow and then a few days again in the 80's.

Take a wide angle lens to be able to frame many of the geysers in a single image. And, a telephoto for wildlife opportunities.

Have a great time.

Just got back from Yellowstone where I attended a 6 day photography symposium and then went to Jackson Hole, WY for 2 days. Second time there - one of my favorite places. If you go to Jackson, recommend Persephony (or ie) Bakery just off the town square. Excellent breakfast, pastries, coffee and tea. Nice weathe sit on the deck. In West Yellowstone, try The Three Bears, the Hungry Otter and Bullwinkes for good eats. Have fun.

Your noticing the moon through the branches is something the "new generation" is missing while watching their phones.
