We're doing a lot of touring now that I'm retired. I don't like lugging around my 35mm slr but my iPhone 6 doesn't produce the results I'd like. What do you guys recommend as a decent quality Point & Shoot camera for less than $500 or $600 max?

Thanks

Panasonic LX10 or ZS100 on sale at B&H.

I know you said no DSLR, but the Nikon D3300 is on sale on Amazon for $400 with the new afp lens. That is a super lightweight option as well.

Consider this Panasonic.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1344035-REG/panasonic_lumix_dc_zs70_digital_camera.html

What I like about it is:
A truly expansive 30x Leica DC Vario-Elmar zoom offers a 24-720mm equivalent focal length range along with a maximum aperture range of f/3.3-6.4.

A 20.3MP 1/2.3" High Sensitivity MOS sensor helps to realize rich image quality with reduced noise and high sensitivity to an expanded ISO 6400.

A great camera that will not break the bank at $400

Nothing at that price point will make you happy. Consider a Fuji X-T20 kit with a 16-55 and 55-230 lens. I got one at Best Buy for $1100.

At this moment the Lumix DMC-LX100 is on sale for $598. It got some great features, a 4/3 sensor and a 24-75mm (35mm Equivalent) f/1.7-2.8 Lens - $200 off normal price.

I am a Canon guy but many like the P900 Nikon bridge camera. It is $600 to $700 most places.
Or you could replace you gear with micro 4/3, they are small, light, take interchangeable lenses. But will be out of your stated price range.

In that price range I would suggest the Nikon Coolpix B700. I got mine used in mint condition on ebay for $318. A plus is it shoots 4K video, shoots raw, jpg, or raw+jpg, lets you use manual settings if you wish, has a 24mm to 1440mm eq. focal length. At full zoom it has a minimum shooting distance of about 10 ft. The picture quality is not quite as good as a dslr with quality lenses, the aperture is restricted to f3.3 to f8, but for a light weight, all around bridge camera, at a low price, I don't think you can beat it.

I would recommend a bridge camera such as the Canon SX60. My Canon SX50 (The predecessor to the SX60) is a great travel camera, when I don't want to take along my DSLR. It has a 50X zoom, a vari-angle LCD and an electronic viewfinder. I've been able to get some great results with it, including pictures from an African Safari in Kenya last summer. The Panasonic Lumix FZ80, Sony HX400V, and Nikon B700 are similar cameras worth looking at as well.

As you can see from the answers you've already received, the term "Point & Shoot" is so broad, that nearly any digital camera will qualify, including most cell phones. If you can give us a few specifics (especially, what you plan to do with your camera) ~ or define the term (P&S), I think you'll get some specific answers that will really help you narrow down your choices.

Bridge cameras such as the Canon SX60, Panasonic FZ80, or the pocket cameras offered by Sony and Panasonic. These can be purchased within your $500-$600 budget.

I wouldn't be caught dead with anything less than a Nikon D3000 series DSLR; D5000 series, if you can manage it. Lighter than any 1970's rangefinder camera.

My favorite travel camera is the current Sony DSC-HX90V
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1137175-REG/sony_dschx90v_b_cyber_shot_dsc_hx90v_digital_camera.html?sts=pi-ps

It has a Zeiss 24-750 mm lens, a pop up viewfinder which is really nice, a pop up flash, I have a belt pouch for this camera. Look, I have a ton of equipment, and this is all I take, I have been very pleased with the results. I also take my trusty Sony DSC-RX100 II camera with me, I have a belt pouch for that camera too, I like this model because it has a hot shoe on top that I can put my big Sony flash on it when needed.
But, you are correct to take a point and shoot with you when you travel, Travel right, travel lite.
