For my first attempt to photograph the Milky Way next month, I would like to have your suggestions for a modest priced, ultra-wide lens for a Canon EOS 70D.
Depends on your budget and what else you want to do with a wide angle lens. If it is only for the Milky Way the 14mm 2.8 would work. Keep in mind that that is a 21-22mm equivalent FOV on your camera. The need for a fast lens for this is so you can get a good shot without star trails. With the 14mm you can use a 20 to maybe 22 second exposure with out getting noticeable trails. With the 2.8, depending on conditions, you can probably get a good shot with considerably shorter exposure time.
