The acropolis at night is spectacular. Bring a good tripod, and a f2.8 lens.

A suggestion on taking a night photo of the Acropolis is to go to the top floor of the Intercontinental Hotel and buy a drink in the terrace lounge and take a photo of the lighted Acropolis. It is a beautiful view and provides a different perspective. Good luck!

We stayed in a hotel near the National Archeological museum, and the top floor had a really good view of the Acropolis.

I am going to Greece in a week or so, and I have ruled my photo equipment to one of the 2 following. Any comments and suggestions for changes greatly appreciated.

1. Full frame camera and 11--24mm, 24--70, 70--200.

2. Full Frame camera and 11--24, 24--70, 100--400.

I have only traveled abroad once before, so not too sure what to take. I could replace the 24--70 with a 24--105, but with a compromise in image quality.

Thanks,

Either combination will serve you well; if you are definitely limiting yourself to three lenses, go with 1, if your 70-200mm is f/2.8, but the 100-400mm otherwise. Don't let anyone discourage you from taking your 11-24mm; it is a great lens and ideal for some of the opportunities you will have.

That choice eliminates everything between 24mm & 100mm - why???

If it was me, and it's not, travel right, travel lite. I would take the 11-24 and 100-400. But if I were taking the trip, all I would take is a Sony point and shoot with a belt pouch for it. You really are considering TOO much gear.

Just was in Greece this past June... beautiful country. I took my ff 5d4 with my 24-105 f/4 and my 70-300mmL. My husband took his ff 5d3 with his Tamron 28-300mm which never left his camera. If you are taking tours or going to the sites you will be fine with your 24-70mm or 24-105mm and one longer lens... I'd take the lighter of the two.

I traveled to Greece a few years back and I did it with my 24-105 and my 28-300. Didn't miss too much on the wide end so I'd think about skipping your super wide lens. The 400 might be over kill as well. I didn't encounter much that needed that much reach.

I traveled there last year with the 24-105 on the FF and the 70-200 on the CF and it worked fine. Left the rest of the gear back home.
