They're both very well done. Photo #2 is a really serene. I like how the path in the middle of the photo pulls the viewer in.

There's only one complaint I would have with photo #1. The ground and the trees have gone completely black and are void of detail. This would be a good candidate for HDR to reveal a little detail in those areas. You said that you have the RAW file of the photo. Photomatix Pro HDR can actually work with a single file. It's amazing how much detail it can extract from a single file.

My Wife and I have recently move from NC to WI. We have spent the winter here and love the area. I have been taking a lot of photos in camera RAW since everyone raves about how much more information you have to work with. I must admit, I am liking it. I just need a lot more experience. Here are a couple of photos to check out. See what you think. Very tough winter here this year!

What a nice set Bill!

I agree with COs post about HDR.
As an alternative to that, if you want to keep the foreground very dark (like you have it), I would spot out the tiny lights in that same area and also over to the lower right, there appears to be a fat horizontal line that I would k/o.

In my preceding post, I meant to give you a RAVE compliment on the sunset (photo 1). It is so dramatic, well composed and the color is outstanding.

Good eye on the chain link fence! I missed that. Thanks for your comments.
