When I was in the service, I got to shoot a BAR. I couldn't keep it on target. It always went up and right no matter what I did.
Later in life, I had a neighbor who carried a BAR on Iwo. Once I asked him how he kept it from going up and right. He said that he turned it 45 degrees to the right and it just fired along the horizon.
I really felt stupid!
ROTFLMAO! No wonder he lived. Compared to SS he was an Einstein!

Interestingly enough, target shooting skills and photography skills are interchangeable.
I shoot on average at least once s week, and in local competitions.
Among my tools are match grade AR-15, .45 ACP and a VOLQUARTSEN RUGER .22 AR and a vintage 1873 SAA cowboy shooter.
For a CCW I use a SIG SAUER .380 ACP.
I have never “brandished” a weapon during conflict and hopefully never will.

Hi,
I enjoy target shooting often like so many who enjoy golfing, bowling, etc.
I try to go to the range a couple of times a month.
Each trip to the range last from 2 to 3 hours or so. Some range target shooting or just shooting the breeze with friends I have made.
I am an old man age 77, thus retired, and was taught at age 10 on the ole dirt tenant farm how to shoot, respect, safety of an innate tool called a firearm.
As a Youth a firearm was a very important tool to hunt help feed the family, harvest hogs, cattle for processing aka family food.
As an 18 year old I lugged one around in the Military, and used per Command Orders in Service to Our Nation.
As a Young Man for a few Years I was a Certified State of Florida Police Officer serving as a part time Reserve Officer while working full time at my Professional Career with an Investor owned Electrical Utility. (In Miami, Florida where I lived at the time the Public Safety had an excellent Reserve Officer Program where one perfomed 20 hours of Police Work per month two 8 hour shifts, and a 4 hour in service training)
I know You did not ask for a Personal History just amount of time one may go shoot any firearms they own.
I will be interested in the replies you receive regarding how often one enjoys their firearms.

I’m not a gun owner and I’m curious about gun ownership. Many owners are said to own multiple weapons. So I would like to know how often do you shoot and in what context. I know there are many hunters so I wonder how often you hunt. Target shooting, competitions?
I have NO hidden agenda so please let’s not turn this into another Attic “feces fling”; please let’s leave judgments out of this one thread.
I have a 12 guage for personal protection and pray that I never shoot

I have enjoyed this thread. My hat is off to you and all who posted. No one threw any mud. No one called anyone a derogatory name. All were civil. I hope more people will post. 👍👍👍
I started shooting at ten or twelve. Years ago I shot in handgun competitions. Have not hunted in 6-7 years.
I think I liked firearms for the same reasons I like most sports that involve moving an object from my personal space towards a precise point some distance away: archery, golf, darts, bocce, horseshoes, washers, bowling, etc.
I go to an indoor range every two or three months to keep my sidearm skills somewhat sharp. I get out to shoot sporting clays a couple of times a year. Sadly, my rifles only get let out once every year or two anymore...takes more time, effort, and travel. I hope to start hunting a little more often again at some soon point!
Inventory consists of a Colt Defender .45, a Desert Eagle .50, Browing Lighting 20g (a real gem made in about 1953 in Belgium), Remington 12g, Winchester .243, Remington .270, Sako 22-06, Marlin .22, Ruger Mini 14 (fold stock, numerous hicap magazines, flash suppressor-very scary and military looking - LoL) Also have a pristine antique Sharps .50 carbine (another gem), a pristine Remington O3-A3, a Mauser 7.65, and a Hawkins .50 (replica.)

Rifles, Shotguns & handguns - shoot them all - some better than others - but don't get to my club range as often as I would like - 4-5 times a year but that will change when I retire in Sept - Oct. and have more time to shoot & reload.
Shot action pistol for 6 or 7 years but "life" got in the way and had to step down as Range Master.

Not nearly as much as I used to. I just "retired" from being a a volunteer RSO at a gun range that I use and in that context i handled and fired weapons every week. Now that i am approaching my actual retirement, I will be giving that as well.
In my younger days, I was a frequent hunter but as age is catching up with me, it is harder and harder to spend the time tracking, etc. My relatives will inherit my hunting rifles. I still shoot skeet almost every weekend.

I haven't been shooting for years. That's one reason I sold all of my guns except for 3 for home defense or conceal carry.

When in college I bought an Argentine Mauser 7.65 Nato. Great weapon. Gave it away. Wonder what it would be worth now.

If you remember was it 7.65 Argentine or 7.62 NATO cal.? IF it was Argentine 7.65 cal. and the rifle had not been cut down in any way and not use as fence post.
Also was it Model 1891 or Model 1912. Model 1891 very good con. $300.00 Model 1912 very good con. $400.00+ 7.65 Argentine cal. put you up in the same class as a .308

Once or twice a month for me at the NRA range with my Kimber .45 and then a few times a year at a N-SSA National or Regional Skirmish shooting my JP Morgan or Smith black powder carbine or my Louve musket.

Ok, lets keep this on the up and so far have kept it clear. Someone wrote using a AR-15, ok the around is 223 cal. which is a very good round for shooting in very flat land. Flat land to me is any area where you have a lest 200 yards of open land 360o around you. I live in Northern New York, 100 yards is a big deal. See a person carrying a AR 15 into the woods in this part of the USA. Is very odd.
The reason for it being odd, is that NY for the most part does not allow any RIFLE hunting except in certain areas. Like the Adirondacks and other mountainous terrains. e.g. You can only use shotguns with slug for deer in the rest of the state your so called flat land areas. This doesn't mean you can't shoot them in those areas for target practice but the reason for not seeing them going into the woods for hunting.
Where did you get the idea of an AR-15 is for flat land?
