I mainly do Wildlife and Bird photography. I will be doing some traveling this year and want to purchase a wide angle lens for the scenic vistas I am likely to encounter.

I shoot with the Nikon D500 and D850. Currently my widest lens is the Nikon 24-85mm 1:3.5-4.5 G ED. Not opposed to a third party although all my other lenses are Nikon.

For the D500: Tokina 11-20mm f2.8, no doubt!

Thanks in advance.

The main issue with super wide angle lenses for me is that everything is so small in the final image unless you have foreground interest. Personally, any lens will work for landscapes for me and for scenic vistas, I want to be able to discern more detail than a super wide can.

Check out this discussion from last week. The OP asked a similar question and in the end I believe settled on the Tamron 15x30MM, f/2.8 lens. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-517225-1.html

Tamron 15-30mm F2.8 VC for your D850, I HAVE THIS LENS AND IT IS RATED AS GOOD AS THE NIKON SELL YOUR KIDNEY WIDE ANGLE.

Thanks Gang for all the feedback. Got some homework to do! I’ve got some time before my first trip so don’t have to make a decision under the gun!
