I am trying to find a way to save my photos to Amazon Cloud where I have unlimited storage. Anyone have experience in how to do this? Thanks you.

I have it and also and uploaded a bunch of images and found it not very user friendly so I’ve decided to get a large G Technology HD arrayeuth raid to use as my backup instead.

...yeah, it's not the ideal, but it *is* free for Prime and Amazon won't go away anytime soon! That said, I haven't put any up in awhile...

My understanding is that they offer unlimited photo storage, but limited data storage. So, where does that leave RAW files?

The only way is to copy from your drive to the cloud. If you have a back up program, you can set it to do it for you. It will be slow going, if you have a lot, the first time.

They aren’t very well organized either and it’s extremely slow to search through the images. Free isn’t everything for everyone.

...putting "albums" up helps that, but, yes, kinda hard...

You have an Amazon Cloud shortcut showing on your computer? Just drag folders and they will sync with the cloud.

Yes, and it will stay synced, I believe, if the settings are set for it.

I use it. Particularly useful when traveling. Offload images to laptop and they end up synced to home computer.

It did take a while, but I seem to have it under control now. Unfortunately, when I post or email a photo or even open one to try a re-edit (for example) it is posted again to Amazon. Consequently, I have a lot of duplicate or near duplicate copies on Amazon cluttering things up. I can move individual photos to albums however, and this helps organize the lot. Duplicates can be deleted, but this takes a a lot of time. Copies are available on our tablets and other devices almost immediately, and I can recall individual photos back to my PC very quickly. I don't use Amazon as my primary backup, (I also have an external hard-drive and another on-line backup) but it is a very convenient way to share. If one already has Prime it is an excellent additional option.

I back up to several local disks. I used to back up to a hard disk at work, but then they closed the office and now I work at home. Now I back up to Amazon as an offsite option. If the house burns down, I still have all my photos.

Yes it's slow, but if your photos are organized in your file system, that organization can be mirrored at Amazon. Since it's an offsite, last resort kind of thing, I don't care if it's slow. It did take a long time to get the initial upload done, but incremental updates happen overnight.

If I were a pro and shot hundreds of images in a day, it would be painful. In that case, I'd look into one of the paid backup solutions, where I could also keep business papers, etc. Since I'm not a pro, Amazon works for me.

I have two of these G's as 4TB each and I love them.

I would stay away from cloud storage. Disregarding the speed and other technical issues, do you want some other entity to have control of your photographs? Consider this, at any time Amazon could change the conditions and start charging you exorbitant fees simply by emailing you a notice of the change in policy or Amazon could sell their cloud and compromise your control. All cloud providers are corporations that can be bought and sold. In the process of such a sale or a glitch while upgrading or maintaining their equipment, your photos could be lost.

I do not and will not store my photographs in a manner where I am not in 100% control of my property. I have a rather elaborate, but not uncommon, system for backing up my photos with a combination of a Drobo RAID system that duplicates my pictures on multiple hard drives. A pair of the drives are regularly swapped between the Drobo and my bank safe deposit box. That way I have the advantage of offsite storage that will survive any desaster short of a nuclear holocaust while I maintain complete control. Even if the bank were to fail, which I have had happen several years ago, the FDIC steps in and secures the bank including the safe deposit boxes.

You have a point, but I find the ability to share photo albums with friends and family, and while I am away from home, is a nice feature. I never place really private photos on the web ANYWHERE, and with others options in place, I can always tell Amazon to take a hike if they change the conditions of storage. Personal preference.
