I also think the Sirui is very well made. I own there p-424sr. Buy good buy once. Unique photo has it $239 they are authorised and New Jerseys version of B&H.
Had a carbon mono while shooting semi-pro football. You got it.... was run into by accident and it snapped like a twig. But then again had a metal mono and same almost the same result...bent it back so I could still use it. Stopped using a mono and using hand held. Sure now I have bursitis in my elbow. Good luck my friend and hope you are shooting non-moving subjects that can run you over.
I have a Sirui w2004 that I like. Sturdy enough tripod for moderate glass, waterproof design, and one of the tripod legs comes off to be used as a monopod. Offers the flexibility to use it either way. Wish it was carbon though.
This is what I had in mind plus the mini tripod ball head ($6.49).

I have been looking for a new monopod. If I had the dollars, I would probably get a Gitzo or RRS. Has anyone had experience with Feisol or Giotto carbon fiber monopods? And, in particular, is there a good reason to avoid either brand?
A more cost-effective solution is to do what I did. I broke off a not-to-bent tree branch, cut it to average monopod
length, duct taped a tripod head to one end and Gorilla Glued a toilet plunger rubber part to the other.
The rubber makes for a very stable base; on tile floors, you can actually make it stick! And the duct tape gives
you a certain amount of flex in the head to allow for small adjustments in the field of view without having to
loosen or tighten anything. >Alan
I am using Sirui 204s......I think. It was a tad cmostly but I love the fact that you can use it either as a monopod or open the three small legs at the bottom and give it a very good stability better than a monopod by itself. Very attractive came with a very nice case, I’m very pleased. Got it at Amazon
Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I settled on a Benro Adventure 4. And I ordered the inexpensive Amazon monopod for my Granddaughter (to be shared with her father).
