I have the K1 and it is a great camera, you can have it out in rain and snow (I´m living in north Sweden) without problem. You can also watch this comparison between Nikon D850 and Pentax K1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=217&v=ngjFgTQW1Ik
I use this camera with the new 24-70, 70-200 and 150-450mm, 31 and 77mm limited 100mm macro, Samyang 24mm tilt/shift, laowa 15mm macro shift, Pentax DA* 60-250, but also older lenses like Pentax 50mm F1,2, Pentax 85mm soft, and Takumar 85mm F1,8 for example. I have at least 60 lenses between 4,5mm and up to 600mm that I can use so there are a lot of lenses you are able to buy to this camera and all lenses work with image stabilization.

You guys are throwing a monkey wrench into my plans. I recently sold my Nikon D750 to upgrade, possibly to the Sony mirrorless. But due to budget, the Sony is beyond reach, and I pretty much had my mind made up to choose the soon to be released D760. Now I read these posts.... I was a Pentax guy for many years. Maybe I should have stayed. But it's never too late. Any of you K1 users have suggestions for lenses? I would have to sell my Nikon lenses and start from scratch. My main concern would be a good walk around zoom, like maybe 18-100 or so.

Pentax lenses:::I do own(for about a year now) The pentax K-1. It's the best camera I've ever owned. I have a nikon P-900, and a canon Elph, but I started with a SPOTMATIC in Vietnam. I also have three other Pentax cameras. I'm definitely an Avid (maybe RABID) Pentax fan. I say this just to let you know that I have more than a little bit of familiarity with the BRAND. Lenses::: that I really love, The 35mm Macro, the 100mm Macro , the 77mm prime, the 60 to 250 Tele... Those lenses are my favorites, but I also like my 150 to 450mm telephoto. Just haven't yet been able to use that one much, problem is my Trip-pod and Ball head, just not stable enough for the heavy-weight.... I don't know what subject or images you plan to get, but I think if you will just get ONE lens, right away, Make it a great one.. All of the lenses I just mentioned are Damn near FLAW-LESS!!! The pentax 100mm, Macro would be a great FF lens for your K-1 Spend money wisely== 100mm Prime Macro FF one of pentaxes all-time greats!! I'm not Biased or anything LOL RJM

Hi, I am looking to get this FF camera. I'd like some info on it. It's between this and Canon. I was also looking at the Sony A7 RIii, and this has good reviews and it less expensive.

Let us know what camera you ended up getting. RJM

I used to be Pentax. I went through the K10d, then K5, then K3. At that point I decided to switch to mirrorless, and moved to the Samsung NX1. It was a superb camera, but it was stolen, and at the tiime, Samsung announced they would no longer make high end cameras. Another reason I abandoned Pentax is because new accessories and lenses are always for Sony, Canon and Nikon, never Pentax. So I replaced my NX1 with a Nikon D750. A nice camera, but it just didn't feel right. I never warmed up to it. So I sold it several months ago, planning to go mirrorless again. I've been waiting, reading reviews of the Sony, and then Nikon announced the D850. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the best alternative. After hearing more and more about the K1, and frankly missing my Pentax history, I finally bought a K1 this week. I've decided that the few negatives about it are just not a big deal to me, but the positives are huge. I love having GPS, as most of my shots are away from home. I have over 30,000 photos in Light room and often forget where they are from. I went with the 28-105 kit lens because everything I've read about it says it's an amazing lens. I have ordered an adapter to be able to use my Nikon lenses. I figured I'd give that a try before I sell them all. My Nikon flash seems to work on the K1. I still had a few accessories from my prior Pentax days, so that's a little bonus. I took a few Christmas shots this week, and so far I am impressed with what I see. I tried a short video of my wife singing, and it was easy and the video and audio were excellent. So, in summary, I think I made the right decision. The available lenses are more than sufficient for my needs. And I am not a sports photographer. My advice is to not be swayed by aspects that may be considered inferior but which you will seldom if ever need, and concentrate on what you do need. In my case, the K1 hitS the sweet spot.

good for you. i also really liked the build quality and optics of the 28-105 and that zoom covered all the focal lengths that were of concern to me. i really think you made a wise choice. also, don't abandon your smc pentax and takumar lenses. many of these are excellent. when i lived in england, in the 60's the pentax was first choice among fashion and reportage reporters with the nikon f coming in a far second. just depends, i guess, where he advertising departments want to put their dollars.
all the best to you

My experience is that old lenses work just fine in modern Pentax cameras, and I personally find their focus confirmation to be easier than split screen focusing {but I don't use wide apertures with their paper-thin DOF's}.

The K-1 is a great camera and I have been shooting with it since it came out. For action as mentioned it can shoot 4-5 jpg images per second or you set the crop factor to ASP-C and shoot about 6-7 frames a second. So for shooting action occasionally it's fine for me but not a dedicated sports camera. Landscape, portraits, night time you name it is a very capable camera especially with the new full frame lens. The new K-1 MKII is due out any day now and it improves on many of the features of the K-1 especially with the pixel shift that can generate 41 megapixel images and is supposed to improve on the quality and detail in the pixel shift images.

Also, for all you happy K-1 users, you can get an upgrade to the K-1 mk II for around $550.

The Mark ii adds two new major features

(1) pixel shift is now 'dynamic', meaning it can be hand-held

(2) it has latest variant of 'accelerator' chip; apparently it has a role in Noise Reduction, but details are unclear what it does - it was first used in the K-70 and KP, which has a good reputation for taking high ISO pictures.

It's by far the best bang for your buck out there!
