Fake Lenspen?

Has anyone had any experience with knock off Lenspens? I just checked listings on eBay and prices start at less than $1. Now, at that price I am pretty sure I am not getting the genuine article. OK, I am positive of it! Om the other hand, I have seen knock-offs of other photo accessories that seem to be made from the identical molds. I have a no-name battery grip that cost about 10% of the 'brand name' one and is virtually identical.

Anyway,I know this is a really inexpensive item as far as the rest of the stuff in my equipment case goes, but I am curious: has anyone bought a really cheap Lenspen on line? Any opinion as to how well it works?

I also came across this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPGc6O7DQxs where the guy seems to be 'recharging' what is labeled as a fake Lenspen using candle smoke carbon.

Anybody understand enough Russian to offer a rough translation?

Lenspens may be in collusion with the Russians.
Like you stated, they are not too expensive to buy from your reputable camera shop. I would hate to damage a $1000 piece of glass trying to save a couple bucks.

Evidently there are fake Gel Sticks as well.
Be sure yours is the genuine Eyelead product.
I may have gotten one of the fakes.
It stuck too much and I delaminated the OLPF from the sensor on a friend's camera.
We are still friends, but it cost me.

Translation is very rough. VERY. Seems to say the Lenspen is a knockoff, but can be recharged as shown. All in all, my gut says buy the 'expensive' one and worry about other stuff.

The items listed on eBay for around $1 aren't Lenspens, they aren't even fake Lenspens. The are just using the words Lens and Pen in the listing so their listing shows up when you search for Lenspen. Are they any good? Who knows. If it's just a brush, I wouldn't worry. But the cleaning pad, well that might be of concern. Really, it's not that much to get an official Lenspen, so why take the chance?

Fake items will use the same name and trademark, and packaging. See for example most listings for RayBan sunglasses on eBay.

Some fake items are so close to the real thing, you wonder. And the answer is that sometimes the same factory is making the real deal and running some fakes on the side. The difference in that case can be just the use of cheaper material. For example, I have a LowePro camera bag that is fake. It has exactly the same hardware and trademark attachments, and exactly the same tags. But the material is cheaper and the padding less substantial.

There are fakes of many products, and it can be almost impossible to tell the genuine from the counterfeit. What surprises me is comparisons of the real and the fake, showing the differences. Why didn't the counterfeiters do their research and get it right?

Buying from a reliable seller and paying a proper price are two ways to avoid being stung. Buy a "Rollex" from a guy on a street corner for $200 bucks is just asking for trouble. Of course, if the brand is "Rollex," are they really counterfeiting?

The video just explain how to improve a fake Lenspen's cleaning head. You have to put periodically a layer of soot on the cleaning head.

My kit is from Nikon, came with two pens and micro cleaning cloth, love it. Even came in a case and says NIKON on it. Doesn't get much better than that.

Don't buy low quality accessories to clean your precision engineered and difficult to repair equipment. You have quality gear, make the very small investment in the inexpensive real cleaning equipment.

I agree!! I would hate to damage the sensor on a $1000 to $3500 camera because I saved a couple of dollars on a lens pen that scratched, left residue on or damaged my sensor.
