Love BBF and will never change back, but it is a problem when someone volunteers to take my picture with my camera! I like being able to choose between focusing and releasing the button (those locking the focus) or holding the button to have constantly adjusting focus (for moving objects). The latter is not possible if focus is still attached to the shutter release.

I am so excited that today I learned how get the focus off of the shutter button! Now the camera fires right when I press the button!
I know I'm the only one who really cares but I'm excited by it.

I followed Steve Perry’s setup for my D810 and BBF. Very helpful and I won’t go back

I just got done reading Steve Perry's Secrets To The Nikon Autofocus System. Learned a lot that was confusing to me before. One thing I had on my list of things to do today is re-read the back button focus part and set up my camera for that function. If any new people on here haven't read Steve Perry's ebook, it might clear up a lot of questions. It sure did for me! I'm interested in other people's opinions of using BBF. Thanks for starting this topic.

Since you asked, Maybe I'm just too old, if I don't like the auto focus with the shutter I switch to manual focus, one of the few non auto things I routinely do, I do have center focus on so I control the focus point, frame and shoot, playing with 2 buttons to focus and shoot is just too much to shoot.

Tried it once but for me the back button didn't feel like it was in the right place. My thumb just wasn't hovering over it when I needed it to. However, I've just got my camera back from a repair/service and it appears to have been set to factory settings. Maybe I should try it again. Find uses for those buttons I wasn't really using before.

Well, I haven't tried it yet so I may be agreeing with you later on!

I love BBF! If you try it, remember that it might take while to get used to. So don't give up too soon if it doesn't feel right at first.

Once I tried BBF I never went back. It admittedly it was a bit of an adjustment, but it seems natural now. The only issue For me is that I’m left eye dominant so my face, nose, can be in the way of the button. I could reassign the BBF to one of the other buttons on the D850, but haven’t thus far.

BBF, the only way to go. Try in manual with auto iso.

The only problem I have with it is that now I don't have an ae-L button..... But I shoot manual so that doesn't really matter.
Just set it up, so that your shutter button becomes the AE-L button (with a half-way-push)!

Folks should do whatever makes them comfortable and ignore those sanctimonious and arrogant souls who tell you that their way is the only way.
