If you wish to have more information on a specific subject concerning panoramas, please ask here so that one of the moderator (or anyone else) can answer it in a separate thread that can be listed - after vetting - in the topic list.

Notes:
- Suggestions will be deleted after implementation.
- Exchange between individuals will also be deleted 15 days after it took place.

All this is to keep the suggestion thread lean and clean as well as remind us what to do...

The principle is the same as a horizontal one with one big caveat, you would need to use PP to adjust the perspective. I will ask Gene how to that and write something about it as he seem to be doing panoramas of all sorts for a living.

Gene did have some examples and a general how-to in the bottom of the second page of this thread - but I would not skip ahead as the whole topic is interesting.

Does this mean that the Panoramas thread is ONLY for images? What is the reason for separation? Will the different threads be somehow linked, or will we have to subscribe to both?

Thanks!
Susan

Here's one I did of the World Trade Center in Baltimore's inner harbor. Has 13 images, used Nikon D300, f-11, 1/500, 27mm, ISO 200.

As I was using a panorama head my camera was mounted vertically thus should have used 2 columns rather than 1 but getting corresponding shots at the same degree of elevation would have taken more time than I was willing to give.

The 13 images were because I was uncertain about the overlap - figured more better than less. Stitched with PTGui

There are two threads of interest for all:
- Panorama list. This lists all panoramas found in this section (see restrictions) and all threads discovered in the gallery or elsewhere, with the same restrictions.
- Tutorial list. This list tutorial created for this section (anyone can create one) and a link to other tutorials pertinent to panoramas found elsewhere.

Yes, you will need to 'watch both' if you want to be informed.

Tutorial made on demand will be here from this thread suggestion. I am considering making on for vertical panoramas - the first suggestion -.
Anyone can write a tutorial. Gene, Bob and I will vet (verify the information) the thread before listing it. We will work with the tutorial author to correct something -if needed - in order to publish it.

Each list is to be updated periodically.

Changes on listing were hard to find, by my own recognition.
- I added a date on the title to show when the upgrade is made (echoes it in the thread too)
- I am now adding when a panorama is new so that it is easier to find. (next update)
- I am considering another icon to highlight panoramas published in another section.
All this is to make the listing more readable for those consulting the list.

Can you post this in a new thread as all the posts here will be cleaned out over time?

Thank you.

Thank you for the clarification! I am enjoying seeing others panoramas, have only done a few multi-image ones myself, and am definitely going to do more in the future. Glad there will be tutorials as well!

Hi my name is Andrew and I'm new here (and coming back into digital photography after a time long ago with lots of film long ago).
Just wondering if you would like a beginners guide to creating a panorama written and posted? Forgive me if this already exists here, and I missed it.
I just spent 2 days teaching myself how to do it, setting up, taking the images, stitching and then working out how to animate or make a movie from the still shot to best display the result. I am going to summarise all that I learnt for myself anyway, but I wonder if there might be a wider audience?
Having the skill to make a controlled pano strikes me as really useful when we have a big but interesting subject that just cannot be captured in one shot with the limited field of view most lenses have - its our mission as photographers to see and then tell the story - and sometimes you just need a whole lot of frames together to do that.
The guide would probably be a pdf doc, with some images. I think I should invite suggestions for improvement of the guide over time from the crowd here.
But the key to this is to save time for those who do not yet have the skill, to learn just the basics to get them started.
Would that be a good thing to prepare and post? best, Andrew
ps one limitation might be I only have a mac and its compatible software - I left the PC world some years ago and the guide might be a bit limited for that reason.
