We have a thriving Croquet group here in the Village, A couple of years ago I decided to make my own mallet, as every sports person knows, it's always better to have your own gear. Making mallets has kind of snowballed now and I just finished #16...apart from my photography, this is another interest that keeps me off the streets and out of mischief...
I always thought Croquet was a silly game but since I learned how to play, I reckon it's a cross between Snooker and Chess, there are many more rules, twists and turns than I ever imagined. A great game...
The last 2 pics show the last one I made, finished it last week. I call it "Red" as it was made from a solid piece of Jarrah that a friend in the country gave me. The piece of Jarrah is over 100 years old...

Ron, excellent photos of your sport.

It amazes me when I see a member that I follow and all the other abilities and sports they are in. It seems to me that when they excel in one they excel in all. Thank you Ron for showing off all the abilities you have beyond photography.

Beautiful shots of a beautiful wood project Ron. I'm helping the grandson glue up a walnut and oak longboard. I won't be trying out the final product. I'm done skate boarding.

Beautiful work! We live in a senior community outside Dallas, TX, and we have a lot of old golfers here. Thusly we have mainly gone the route of croquet golf. You might check it out if you ever need an occasional switch up. Do you sell your mallets?

Interesting. I played a lot of croquet as a child. We had it permanently set up in the front yard. I've never seen square mallets. I can see some advantages, but I'd think it might play havoc with some of my favorite shots. I guess one would have to get used to them.

Thanks Greg...I've been a "maker" of things all my life, it's something I really enjoy doing. When I was working it was archery gear, bits and pieces for car restorations, drag racing components, pistol shooting components and a host of other things. Sadly I don't have access to metalworking machines now so I'm limited to a bit of woodwork these days...

Thanks John, no I haven't, we don't have a wood lathe here in the workshop...Myself and most of the players here prefer the square ones though...one thing is, they stand by themselves...

Beautiful mallets, nicely photographed too.

I can't play croquet because of our family motto, "Nulli malleis," "With mallets toward none."
