For those of you here in the midwest, the Army Corps of Engineers did an eagle count yesterday at the locks and dams on the Mississippi between Iowa and Illinois. L&D 14, always a popular spot near Davenport has "only" 120 eagles. Why do I say "only"?

Because just south of there at L&D 18 near Burlington they had over 550 Bald Eagles yesterday!!! Keokuk is loaded too with 250 birds.

So grab your handwarmers and extra batteries if you want to capture some great action.

The point of the thread is to alert folks to a great photo op. The pics are incidental. I guess the moderator can move it. But I'll post future pics on another site. So mind your own business jimmy bob.

We stayed at Keokuk a couple years ago in a house overlooking the river, it wasn't unusual to see eagles flying past the window at eye level. At the dam there was what I called "the teaching tree" full of mature and juvenile eagles. The mature ones would fly and skim the water then return to the tree then a young one would fly out and do the same. Not catching fish just learning. Most people don't know that the young have to be taught how to hunt.

That is a superb Eagle shot! I am so glad we did countermeasures to stop DDT in the 70s. It is nice to see something rebound instead of go extinct. Cheers.

Thanks Sylvias and Linda. That one was from Keokuk Iowa in 2015. Here are a couple more from that area. With any luck I hope to have lots more in a few days. Can you imagine seeing over 500 of these birds in one spot? I bet there will be plenty of fish stealing going on.

Guard your pets! Eagles will not hesitate to take them right out from under your nose.
