Thanks Kathleen. It's been on my bucket list for awhile and finally got to see and shoot this beautiful owl.

I bet it was, I have only seen them in the zoo or at the Screech Owl Sanctuary which is near to me. They take in large birds that are found as chicks or injured and then release them back into the wild when old enough and fir enough. If not fit enough to be released they are kept there.. They get minimal human contact while they are there. There are lots of different owls there and they give displays...

They have been in our news and newspapers here. We have a lot on the lake front up in Cleveland, I think I saw somewhere there's 15 up there. They seem to think they had a great breeding season and are migrating south to get territory.

Yes it sure is Val. Only problem I see is they nest on the ground, Since there are no trees up in the Tundra. If they are doing that here, we have lots of predators that could go after them and their young.

Do they nest in holes or just in a convenient place?

I'm not sure I'll check into it and let you know. Just looked it up and it looks like they dig a round hole in the ground and put nesting material in it . Up north they have few predators to be wary of also.

Hi Terry and thank you my friend. The Ken's was great first time out with it. Marty got some good shots too. I wish he'd get on this site. He got some awesome otter pics at the Beaver Marsh the other day. I'll send you a few.

They must be ok doing the nest like that if they had a lot of chicks this year.. Thank for the info.
