Not my cup of tea either, but some are quite exceptional and I appreciate the skill involved in those.
If I’m not interested in something, I don’t look.

I'm afraid that the Photo Gallery would be a barren place if we all waited for a photo of a new subject. Even if my take on a particular subject is not new, it is mine and therefore unique. I won't necessarily post such an image, but if I think others might be interested and it meets my own quality standards, I might share.

Well I do hope that you realize that your posting on griping about repetitiveness is posted twice

Yes, the OP realizes that. This one was moved, although we don't know yet from what section, and the OP posted the second one in the vain hope that it would stay put. Apparently the OP either doesn't understand sections here or has a particular attachment to a section which isn't this one - but Admin doesn't agree.

We have all seen thousands of pictures of the moon or egrets or great blue herons. Are we supposed to continue to admire the same old same old. I would like to see, instead of a demonstration of competence with tired subjects, something new in the photo section. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Everything on Earth has already been photographed. A picture is only new when it tells a unique story. That is what sets Photography apart from static art - the capture of a moment that will never happen again. This little guy will never have this moment with his mom again.

For the most part I just scroll through that section of UUH. Let people have their fun. I don't have to look.

Show us your work. You have created 4 topics. One of them a repeat of another about repetitiveness, but no images. So show us an example of "competence with tired subjects" please.

It is fairly obvious what he means. There are so many technically sharp, well exposed, well composed pictures of the same old thing. But the photo says nothing. A photo is half art, half documentation of a story. The story is what gives it its life as a photo.

How about Cardinals, blue Jays, Florida beach sunsets? I agree, too many of those as well.

I like cardinals. I also like squirrels. If you don't then please don't look.

There's a quote from a Stevie Wonder song that goes "Everybody's got a thing, but some don't know how to handle it...". I guess you need how to handle that. People are proud of the pictures they take and want to share them with others just as you have the right to do. Let me suggest that you do what George Carlin once said in one of his acts Al Sleet the hippy-dippy
weatherman, "If don't like the weather... move"

We all like them. The problem with these static photos is they tell us nothing new about the cardinal sitting on the twig or the bird feeder, just a well composed well exposed, sharp as a tack red bird. So you look at 30 of these nearly identical photos. What has been the esthetic experience? What has been unique, or made you think or chuckle, or surprised you? A really good photo does that.

Perhaps reply back with asking for the type of camera and lens that they used, and the settings. You might also want to find out how many pictures they had to take until they got in the one that was just right. Yes, it would be nice if they provided all that information up front

I understand growing tired of repetitive subjects. I sometimes think I will scream if I see another snapshot of someone's cat. (Of course, my theory there is that self-indulgent cats trained them to take repetitive photos.) Although I would prefer to see mostly exceptional photographs, without seeing the humdrum snapshots we would never appreciate the great. Besides, there is a wide variety of talent here. Exposure to great photography will inspire some few to move beyond point-and-shoot, fully programmed travel pics. After all, the ultimate purpose of this forum is to give everyone a severe case of GAS, right?
