Hey Hedgehogs, it’s time for another Weekly Photo Challenge.

These are more about challenging yourself than worrying that your photo isn’t good enough so everyone is invited especially those who want to improve.

The challenges are simple. You start you off with a theme, but where you take it is up to you! The twist is that everyone needs to submit a short statement along with their photo that explains the ‘who, what, where, why, when or how’ they went through to get it. This helps us ‘feel’ the moment as they did, but can also help with voting. You might also find some great tips to make you better.

Now for the legal stuff:
- Contests start Friday mornings and end Wednesday evenings
- Voting starts Thursday morning and ends Thursday evening
- One entry per user, but if you need an update send a Private Message
- All entries must include a photo and a quick statement as noted above
- Post processing is fine, but please keep it to the absolute minimum
- Everyone gets one vote - if you vote more than once see below *
- Once voting starts there can be no additional entries
- To keep it fair, I will hide the user names and vote counts until voting is over and winners are announced. All votes are anonymous
- And of course, the rules are subject to change as the challenges require

If you need me for any reason, send a Private Message or leave a Reply.

Above all remember this is about challenging yourself – pushing beyond the limits you think you have – so have fun with it and try anything and everything whether you are good at it or not. Make it fun and thank you all! This wouldn’t be possible without you. St3v3M

* Update on voting from ADMIN *

You can vote as many times as you like, but only have one voting point.
If you vote for multiple photos, your voting point gets divided across them all.

For example:

You see a photo you like and you vote for it. That photo now has a score of +1 point from you.
Later on, you see another photo you like and you decide to vote for it too. At this time, each of the two photos gets a score of +0.5 from you.
If you vote for yet another photo, then the three of them will get +0.33 points each from you.
And so on. The number of votes is only limited by the number of photos in the contest.

The rating of a photo is calculated as a sum of all points received from all users.

You can also revoke your vote for any photo at any time. Doing so recalculates your vote share.

So if we continue with the example above (you voted for three photos) and you decide to revoke your vote for one of the photos, then the two remaining photos would get +0.5 points from you added to their scores.

Such system allows you to "change your mind" in case some new photos get uploaded for the contest and you decide not to spread your voting power too thin. If the contest's settings allow it you can begin voting right away while keeping track of new photos added to the contest.

On the ratings page, each photo's rating is shown as two numbers like "4.5 (7)" -- which means the photo in question has a total of 4.5 points based on votes of 7 users.

To sum it up, you can vote for any many photos as you like. But your voting power gets spread across all photos for which you vote. So each photo gets a smaller bump in the score. On the other hand, more of the photos you like get a chance to be at the top of the contest.

This weeks comp is very interesting especially as it is summer.

Question though why do you allow archive images in your competition? You just know somebody is going to drop a corker of a polar bear, back from their 2008 trip to the artic circle. Im also expecting to see holiday pics of an ice hotel, igloos and a lot of last winters icicles. This would be fine if they were captured during this coming week.

Its much more fun, and challenging and then rewarding to go out shooting with the theme in mind rather than searching your archives for an image that fits.

An honest question deserves an honest answer. It is because it is summer that I thought it would be fun to do something off season giving everyone a little relief from the heat. In truth I have not addressed the issue of using archived photos in the rules as of yet really for the same reason I have not been severely enforcing the statement issue. I want everyone to have fun, to get into it, to push themselves and then we can adhere to the rules more fully. Your question is valid however and will be addressed in the next challenge. Thank you.

If people want to go through their archives, they are not challenging themselves .... it goes back to - it's what makes the world go 'round .... have fun with it and be thankful that St3v3M is taking the time and effort AND energy to do this for us UHH's!!! Happy Friday ...the 13th!! :)

NOTE: I am boarding a plane for a two week trip to Africa. I should have email, but I may be a little delayed Replying especially for the next 36+ hours. You're all smart people though so I think you'll manage. S-

I know a couple of chicks that would qualify as ice cold, but can't post the photos; this is, after all, a family forum!
