I know there have been many discussions here over the years about Apple's Aperture program (the former Lightroom competitor), which hasn't been updated or supported by Apple since 2014. Most discussions have been about migrating to Photos or Lightroom, etc., but I know there are holdovers like myself who found the ease and familiarity of the program's organizational structure unmatched anywhere else. And I've hung on, even though Aperture was getting more and more funky - trouble shutting down, having to rebuild it every few weeks, etc. With the release of High Sierra, however, I've found Aperture to be a hundred times more stable for me and seems to be running better than before. And my main library holds around 40,000 photos. Anyone else having the same experience?

Scary part is that with any update to the OS, Aperture can break, hope you are using referenced instead of a managed library, or you know how to dig into the managed library to access all of your images.
That being said, I used to Love Aperture myself before it was orphaned.
Yes. I also still use Aperture for the same reasons, but I have not experieced the problems you mentioned. Eventually yes, but so seldom, so I do not worry about.

Same here, but you are spot on. With some OS update, probably without warning, Aperture will be a goner. I decided not to wait and subscribed to LR. I was completely lost the first week, but I’m improving. And if the OP is worried about the subscription model, someone made a great point recently by comparing what we pay monthly for LR
and Photoshop to what coffee drinkers pay at Starbucks. I thought it was a great analogy.
Do keep a backup of your pics. I had the opposite experience with iPhoto. After switching to Lightroom I kept iPhoto for some photo organizing and old collections and quick edits for email but with High Sierra it's started showing all the bad things your Aperture was showing before. I'm about ready to try deleting and reloading High Sierra but I suspect it's the beginning of the end of Apple's non-supported programs.
yes, I back up to several places, including a full backup in Photos
Aperture is running very well on El Capitan, which I just moved to from Snow Leopard, and I don't plan to upgrade for a few more years.
I'm replacing my 10-year old iMac next month so I'm glad to hear Aperture will still work.

I am not sure I would trust Apple to keep Aperture working with future OS releases and base my new computer decision on that factor alone.
