Lowes is usually pretty easy to work with. PS--Lowes, a sister to Wal-Mart, is all over the country.

Very nice! Did you know that one of the lock companies has DIY lock/key adjustments? You can buy any number of their locks and have them all fit the same key. I think It's Kwikset.

I have one that was set up to use the same key that fits all our other doors. I just checked and it is indeed a Kwikset lock.

I recently stopped shopping the Home Depot due to customer service issues I had with them. Not one, but two issues in two days and the customer service supervisor never even bothered to get back to me. I like the Lowes near me and will shop there from now on even if it is a bit farther away.

I believe Home Depot gives the 10% Vets discount as well. At least my local one does.

I believe it’s only on specific days (holidays). I checked with them before a major appliance purchase, and that was the response. No idea if it applies differently to vets, retired or active military.

Lowe’s and Wal-Mart are not related in any way.

Strange. I've been given the Vets discount whenever I've asked for it at the local Home Depot. I've never used it for a major purchase but was told the discount applies to any purchase up to $5,000. Sounds like granting the discount might be up to local management.

With Home Depot, just be aware that any refund to a store credit card cannot be used to buy anything from their online website. It's only good at the stores & as such any online only items cannot be purchased with them.

Oops, then why are they all over the PNW and West coast? Three within 40 miles Central Oregon.

Years ago I cashed a pay check at the bank. I decided to count it again before I walked out the door and low and behold they had given me an extra $100.00. I recounted several times and it still came out $100.00 dollars to much. I took it back to the teller and he recounted and thanked me. Later that night I got a call from corporate and they thanked me for my honesty. Makes you feel good.

Last week I had to replace all the locks and handles in a house. Since all locks had to use the same key I requested for them to do that as well as producing 4 additional keys.

Since the guy who did that was off for the day I paid for the stuff and left the locks in the store. The additional keys were not included in my bill.

We got the stuff yesterday. At home I realized we had not paid for the keys. My wife went back to the customer services and pay.

Low-and-behold not only did they not make her pay but gave her a $50.00 gift card!!!

'This is the first time we see someone come back to pay for something we forgot to charge' was the manager explanation...
Last week I had to replace all the locks and handl... (show quote)

Old school honesty and integrity is slipping away. Thanks for sharing!!

When recently making a significant purchase, at least for me, I was told that they don’t give you both discounts on a purchase, it’s either one or the other.

Lowes in Yuma, AZ does not give the military discount. At least not the last three times I have shopped there. The one in Spokane, WA (our summer home) does however. Home Depot in Spokane does not give it at the register, you now have to go to customer service and sign in there the first time then they give it when you enter your phone #.

I stopped shopping at Lowes years ago. The first five years after I moved here I shopped a lot at Lowes. I purchased things like a lawn mower, a refrigerator, a shed for the back yard, a clothes dryer, materials to insulate and panel the garage, plants and landscape materials, and numerous other items. According to my MS Money program I spent about $9,000 there. Back then there wasn't a Home Depot near me, now there is.
I saw a notice in the Lowes window for help wanted and since I had experience in home maintenance I applied on-line. I spent hours filling out their job application, a resume, a cover sheet and three inane tests of 100 questions each they required. After submitting all that crap it only took what seemed like minutes for them to email me back saying, basically, "go to hell". Now the only time I'll go to Lowes is if I can't find what I need elsewhere (Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon, etc.) or I'm passing a Lowes store and need some small item costing less that $10.00.
To Lowes as far as I'm concerned.

Cumulative discount.... It depends of the store more than anything else.

Home depot - I once bargained the price of a display item (table saw) down to 40%. I asked for the military discount hen paying. The cashier said it was not available for discounted item. I had the manager called in. He confirmed that it did not matter what was sold in any condition, the military discount was just that: A privilege for the military that could not be refused.

Home depot and Lowes have changed some of their discount policy toward military: Before it was store wide, now it it not.

Note for all Lowes customers: If you want to use the military discount you must register on their web site first and they will use your phone number as an identifier (same as they do with the store discount card). This should be effective on the first of January 2018 according to the sign next to the cash register.
