The Miami Marlins were playing the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee; the score was tied 7 to 7, there were two outs, and the bases were loaded. It was the last half of the 9th inning, and the count was 3 balls and 2 strikes. with the Marlins at bat.

The great Brewer pitcher, Mel Famy, was on the mound. He had played the whole game and was sweating like a pig.

Before the critical pitch, Mel called a time out and motioned the Bat Boy to the mound. The Bat Boy approached Mel with a cold bottle of beer, which he took and guzzled down in one long swig.

He sneered and threw the empty bottle toward the Marlins' dugout.

Then he wound up and threw the pitch. The ball was low and outside and the Umpire called a “Walk”. The winning run was forced Home from 3rd, and the Marlins won the game.

After the crowd was gone, the Marlins' Manager, picked up the empty beer bottle that Mel threw toward his dugout, looked at the label, and proclaimed, “What a souvenir? This was The Beer That Made Mel Famy Walk Us”.

This joke is so old it literally began with the Milwaukee Braves. No kidding.

Marlins could not have been at bat in last half of ninth, game was in Milwaukee.

Marlins could have been home team but Florida was hit by a hurricane so the game got moved to Milwaukee with the Brewers leading off. 🤔

Seriously, this was told about Schlitz beer when Aaron played in Milwaukee. Their slogan was “the beer that made Milwaukee famous.” Milwaukee famous—Mel Famey walk us—that’s the joke.

I really hate to be picky, but if it was in the bottom of the ninth inning, then the Brewers would be batting since they were the home team, not the Marlins. Sorry.
