Fellow Hoggers, I have the Cannon Pro 100 printer. I love the pictures it makes. I am finding the ink a little pricy. I have found an aftermarket provider. It is LD Products.com. Has anyone used their products? If so did you experience any problems with the ink. It is a lot cheaper (less expensive) I use Red River Polar Pearl Metallic paper. I really appreciate any assistance or information you can provide me. I am retired and on a fixed income ( an they fixed it low ) so if this ink is good I could save some money. I do not want to risk damage to the printer though.
Thanks for any and all input.

I use these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/8-Combo-Pack-Ink-Cartridges-for-Canon-CLI-42-CLI42-CLI-42-PIXMA-PRO-100-PRO-100S/182134369964?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

I bought a Pro100 from a guy that had one new in the box but he, for some reason, didn't have any ink. So I got the printer from him for $80 and bought these inks off eBay. It worked great. I bought a spare set too. I also bought a set of OEM ink when Canon had a special where they gave $600 of free paper with the purchase of a set of ink. I sold the printer to a friend and now have the Pro-1000. I have no qualms with the ink I got from eBay and my friend is getting great pictures now too.

Yes, the ink is pricey. I'll be interested to see what suppliers others have liked. I've had hit or miss experience with generic ink in my HP and Canon iP4500. I think I'm using ink from InkFarm now, and that's been okay.

I recently bought some cartridges from InkFarm - never again. They leaked all over the bags they were shipped in, my desk and clogged my printer. Spent 5 hours unglogging it in order to print two 8-1/2 x 11 b&w text pages. Have heard good things on the UHH forum about, but haven’t personally tried, PrecisionColors.com. For best results, stay with OEM cartridges.

All the aftermarkets have better prices, but some have been no good - leaking or bad colors.

EDIT: I posted three links that members recommended. One didn't work, and another had only name-brand ink. That leaves us with inkfarm.

https://ww3.inkfarm.com/

Good prices: https://ww3.inkfarm.com/Canon-Pro-100/ink-cartridge

If you want to refill the cartridges yourself -

I have the Pro-100 and after the warranty period ran out I switched to Precision Colors refill system. Their inks come from Image Specialists which makes ink for the commercial printing industry and some of the OEM ink brands. The inks are custom mixed and they have custom ICC profiles for many papers including Red River. I did a few on the Polar Pearl Metallic and have done a series using the sample packs from Red River. The results are great on all I have tried so far.
Refilling takes a bit of time, and sometimes cleanup if I forget to be careful(I learned to work on newspaper with paper plates to sit things on etc) but the Ultimate Pack for the Pro-100 came with a set of new cartridges, chip resetter, squeeze bottles, and long nose refill caps etc. The kit came with 4oz bottles of ink enough for aprx 7 complete refills-I top off all tanks after a major printing session. Price is currently $162 plus tax and shipping and replacement bottle up to 16 oz are available.

You do need to transfer chips from Canon carts to the refillable ones, it is easy and I kept 3 sets of chips in little zip locks for future use just in case.

I also print from LightRoom using Canon's Print Studio Pro. It did take a few trials to learn how to tweak things to keep prints from being too dark. But I had the same thing with Canon OEM inks. Probably my eyes because the monitor etc are calibrated monthly and the only problem was being just a hair too dark. The exposure slider in Print Studio Pro cured that problem.

The OP should find some of these videos on third party ink interesting. If I was considering a third party ink, I would be looking for a seller that provides custom icc paper profiles that were made with their inks. To my knowledge LD Inks and Inkfarm do not offer profiles.

Thank you for the U tube link. I watched several and think I will spend the extra $ for the OEM Carts. At 74 years old I could not live long enough to view all of them. But it was a great help.

I think you are being smart with using OEM ink. I am very happy using the Canon ink, I order from Canon directly and usually get a bunch of free paper in the shipment.
I started by ordering a complete set of ink (8) cartridges and after I have replaced 3 cartridges I order the 3 replacements from Canon which as I said before they usually send me a couple of hundred dollars worth of free paper.
Keep on printing and enjoy your photos.

I have a P-100 and buy my inks from LD Products.
Haven't had any problems as yet, except for one cartridge of theirs that I put in new and it wouldn't work.
I contacted them twice and they said they would take care of it under Wty.
I have yet to hear from them again about it.

I see there is now a CISS available (continuous ink supply) if you do a lot of printing.
