Trashing public land is my favorite pet peeve. I can't cure it but I have found a way to lessen my frustration. If I see anyone casually throw trash on the ground I immediately pick it up, put a smile on my face and get the culprits attention by politely saying, "excuse me, I think you dropped something". I wait two beats which is just enough time for them to say, "oh, thank you" and put their hand out. I toss the garbage in their face or if they happen to be in a car I throw it in their lap and run like hell!

I've had some close calls but the satisfaction is worth the risk.

What is the interval between cleanup days?

Does that count represent one month's trash or several years?

It's probably an annual event, but the fishing season is only about half a year.

Any responsible person can understand your feelings. However, throwing trash at someone can be considered assault, or you may not get away. Getting the shit beat out of you is not so satisfying. It would be better to say something like “l’m not the asshole who litters here, but you are.”

I live next to woods and a golf course . It's actually a one mile dead end street . To access it however the end of the road connects to Route22 and Chestnut Street . So with the use of GPS , the turn-off from Route22 to Chestnut Street has been discovered by the masses and that stretch of road looks like a garbage dump . It's the stretch that has no houses on it but when I go to work in the morning it's a pretty sad site . The County road crew is out there at least once a week . So it's my tax dollars paying to address other people's laziness and ignorance . They attitude of " let the other guy worry about it ", is growing .

Around this neck of the woods , calling someone an asshole might get you shot . We are very close to Newark here and it's suburbs . It's population has declined in the past 30 years , not in numbers really , but in mature law abiding adults . The kids are like wild animals . Extremely sad .

Unfortunately, it isn’t just around Newark. We are living in a time of total disregard for the courtesy and respect of others. Drive anywhere and see how many drivers have a “Me first and the hell with you!” attitude. The values of the greatest generation have gone the way of the dinosaur. The privileged brats we raised are now running and ruining this country. Very sad.

I agree with that too . It's actually a breakdown of society . As the WW2 generation leaves us , those great teachers , we are left with ... I'm actually at a loss for words .

In Germany, in the parks, there is no excuse. Both the bags and where to put them is provided:

We live on a main highway with about 400 feet of frontage which I mow. Before I can cut the ditch, I have to pick up booze bottles, beer cans, food wrappers, paper, glass, once even a wallet with money and latter returned the wallet to the owner. I even had a beer can thrown onto my just cleaned area as I was walking away. If I knew who did the dumping, I would gladly return the garbage to the owners yard.

Happens, all too often, in the city too. Pop cans, etc. on the ground-sometimes right beside a trash can. City pigs have no pride of Place.

We have the bins - it seems people can't stand the idea of carrying it a few yards but expect someone else to do it for them.

Throwing rubbish is a despicable human trait and one that I despise. I get particularly upset by fishing line as this gets tangled in the mouths and on other parts of birds and other aquatic creatures. I walk on the beach almost daily with my dog and in the more popular seaside beaches I always find broken glass and fishing line both of which I collect in a bag and dispose of in a bin.

I agree completely. My Wife was called Home in May of 2015 and I find myself at the cemetery 3 or 4 times every day or evening. It really gets My goat to watch people pull into the cemetery every time I am there, get out of their cars and then open the rear door to let their dog out, a lot of times without a leash, and then take an evening walk around the cemetery with their dog following them and stopping to pee on someone's headstone or worse take a dump. Most of these people don't even have any loved ones buried there. Disgusting, ignorant pigs! Let Me clarify this by pointing out that usually it is the dog doing the disgusting business I am referring to - - - - I think.

NYC held a Reservoir Cleanup Day on October 1, with volunteers scouring the woods for garbage. They weren't disappointed. Below is a summary of what they found - left behind by fisherman.

People are pigs? Wrong, not as good as.
