George Eastman, aboard the S. S. Gallia, ca. 1890, aims his Kodak camera, while another records his picture. His invention was the first to use roll film.

From Old Time Photos

I thought the Hogs might enjoy this old photo. We've come a long way in the last 127 years.

The first photo I've seen of George Eastman holding a camera. Good post.

Eastman Kodak, now I remember growing up hearing that Name many times on T.V. in the 1950's and 1960"s and 1970's. Wow times have changed! If you ask a young person today, who was Eastman or what was Kodak, they would most likely have, "NO CLUE".

Correction: It was actually Peter Houston who invented the first roll film camera, in 1881. A few years later, his brother David Houston licensed the patent to George Eastman.

Is the folding camera a Proemette? It looks like one I have.

I grew up in a small town near Rochester NY. It seemed most of the adults I knew drove the hour to work at either Kodak or Xerox at the time. My grandfather worked for Kodak. He passed away in 1975 and my grandmother received pension benefits from Kodak for years after his passing.
