I've seen some reviews of the "Tamron 18-400mm f3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD" and it won an EISA award for 2017 (http://www.tamron.com/news/press_release/20170815.html) but I haven't found anything posted on this site. I'm considering the Nikon version for my D7200.

Anyone have this lens and care to share?

Excellent walk-around lens. Decent quality at all focal lengths. Wife has 1600 shots with D7100. Equal to or better than the 18-140 it replaced and the extra length was much appreciated shooting wildlife. If it was available in FX, I would buy another.

This lens has been mentioned more than once in past posts. Good reviews from uhh members. I even remembered the price. $649. I may replace my Nikon DX 70-300mm for it. No, it's not a full frame format lens. But, if you don't plan to go full frame, it really doesn't matter.

This lens has been mentioned here quite often since its release. Surprised you haven't found any references. In general its considered one of the best of the superzooms lenses.

That was my thought, so I used the SEARCH function. LOL, good luck with that! I couldn't even find a couple that I had replied to.

I was not at all interested in a cheap lens with such a wide focal length, but my wife expressed some interest before our Yellowstone trip a few weeks ago. I told her no way! I wanted to pick up a 70-300 for her, but she didn't want to lose the lower end, so I told her to stay with her 18-140 and use my lenses. Anyway, she loves the lens and frankly it will be a great occasional walk-around lens on my D500. It is short, relatively light and a pleasure to carry after toting a 200-500 or 80-400 around. It produces some very good photos on a D7100. When we settle down, I will get some pics posted.

Really a great deal as she gave me her 18-140...

This is a brand new lens, and at least a couple of people here have it and like it.

The better and cheaper lens than the Nikon 80-400 would be the Nikon 200-500.

I’m considering this as well for my upcoming D7500 purchase…although my current first choice is the Nikon 18-300. Has anybody tried both?

I purchased this lens for use on my D5300 about 5 weeks before a trip to Europe, intending to bring it instead of my Nikkor 18-140 f/3.5-5.6. I gave it a good workout for a few weeks, and it seemed to be doing a great job. Image quality was more than acceptable for the type of photography I would be doing, i.e., documenting a wonderful family trip. I was especially impressed with it's close-focusing ability at near-to-full zoom. It was a bit soft on wildlife and birds at over 75 yards and at 400mm, but I suspect that was more of a reflection on my focus technique more than the lens.

About 10 days before we left it suddenly started having problems with focusing at closer distances (e.g., a bird in a tree at between 10 to 20 feet), where it never had a problem previously. Normally it would lock-on and all was right with the world. The problem I experienced is that it would hunt for a second or two, fail to lock focus, and then it would try again. I tried turning the camera off and back on, and it continued to have the same problem. It would lock focus on distant objects with no problem. I did not have access to the TAP console, so I don't know if that would have made a difference or not. If it was not for this focus hunting issue I would have taken it with me on the trip. As it was, I returned it to B&H and brought the 18-140.

I am using this on my 7100 and a Tamron 28-300 on my 750. Both excellent lenses to about 80% of the zoom. I need a tripod or plus 800 shutter speed after that.

I have it, use it on my 70D, and love it thus far! Honestly haven't put it through all the paces yet, so the jury is still out, but it is looking favorable. You should know, it's not going to be a perfect lens, I've seen a significant amount of CA in some of my shots, but nothing that wasn't easily corrected in post.

Thanks for all the input. Seems like mostly good stuff except for Gary's focusing issue.
Gary - did you try the lens on another body and get same focus issue (if that is an option)?

No, I did not have another body to try it on.

Except for this issue it was destined to be my walk-around lens.

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I bought this lens and tested it at an outdoor country festival. Had reservations at first because I normally shoot with a Canon 70-200L II on a Canon 7DM2 (sometimes with a Canon 2x II extender). Needless to say, I was spoiled. Happy to say,,,,,,,,,, this lens blew me away at close and long range. I took action shots, landscape, group shots, macro shots and others. This may not be a L series lens but,,,,,trust me,,,,,,it is a keeper. At 649.00,,,,,,,,, yet can't beat it. Pound for pound.
