I went out to shoot eagles today and got a few from really far away that will be in a different post, but while waiting for the eagles a couple of Sandhills came to visit. A couple of these birds got so close that the head shot in this series has not been cropped. I know a few of the images have been clipped but I was shooting with a tripod and chose not to move the further back to get the entire bird in the frame, lazy I guess. One thing I learned about the Sandhills today is that the red on the top of their heads is not feathers.

Very nice. My favorite bird, excellent parents.
They do know how to have fun. If you look carefully at photo #3 & 4, you will see a piece of twig (or something). The bird picks up some leaf or twig, jumps into the air and drops what it was that was picked up. Very glad you didn't remove it in editing, it's part of the dance.

These are superb bird photos! Some of them show perhaps mating rituals?

Absolutely gorgeous. Your images put a VERY big smile on my face. I really enjoy seeing images of these beautiful, fun birds. We don't have them here where I live, so I really look forward to seeing their photos here.
any thanks!
