Hi, guys,

I’m an old guy in Austin who once — many, many years ago — made his living with a 4x5 view camera. Lot of water under the bridge since then and I’m now retired, but I’ve still got the view camera, although I must admit it’s been a couple of years since I exposed a sheet of film. Anybody else out there working in black and white? In large format?

Welcome to UHH. Yup, been using a 4x5 since 1969, along with a plethora of other cameras both digital and film.

Yes, I have two 4x5" View Cameras. One a studio rail full movement model, and a front movement mostly folding wooden field camera. And also I am mostly only interested in B&W film as I was in the old days. For Color, I'm all digital.

No one left in Houston to process 4x5 or 8x10 color film, so my two Toyo's have gone dark.

Elmo, I was like you until 10 years ago when I sold by 4 x 5 and 8 x 10 Deardorff's. I am a digital convert. With Lightroom ad Adobe PS I create Black and White images. It was exciting to watch the image come up in the developer. Don't miss the smell of the stop bath and fixer.
I gave it up because my favorite films, papers and chemicals were not available anymore.

I am old but don't think or feel I am old.

Welcome to UHH.

Not quite as adventurous, but here's me carrying my 4x5 somewhere in the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.

Hey Bob, carrying that gigantic thing around is an adventure in itself.

Back in the 50s and into the 60s I used a 4X5 to do weddings. Wasn't bad but having to lug around case full of film holders was a pain. I still have my black changing bag I used in case I had to reload some film.
