I lost the cable provided with my Canon T3 to connect to the computer to download pictures. Since then I have been going nuts trying to figure out how to get a new one on Ebay. It has a bus connector on one end for the computer and what the camera labels HDMI on the other. But there are at least 3 different sizes with the same general look as this. I have already bought a set of cable that didn't match the camera end. What kind of search argument would show me what I want ?? Thanks.

Somewhere, in your camera manual, it should tell you which of the three sizes that you need.

You might call one of the larger vendors (or regional chains) and asking them to suggest a cable that fits your camera and computer needs. I got a great USB cable from the Manchester, NH, store of Hunt’s Photo & Video (a great photo chain that serves the New England area and elsewhere via mail order.

It should be an everyday plain old micro usb to standard usb cable. If you have a smart phone the cable that came with it should work just fine. If you want one that is advertised as fitting a Canon T3 just go to Amazon and search for Canon T3 usb cable.

The mini-HDMI is only for connecting the camera to another HDMI input on a monitor or projector so you can run a screen show right out of your camera. Why you'd want to do that, I don't know.
The transfer port in the side of your camera is mini-USB. You need a mini-USB to type A male, as found on Amazon for $6:

But, why not get an SD card reader, plug it into your computer and download the files that way?

There are two ports on your T3 - an HDMI port to connect directly to a TV or computer display to display pictures and a mini USB port to download images to your computer. If you’re looking for the USB cable just Google Canon T3 USB cable, and you’ll get dozens of choices like this: http://www.marttree.com/canon-eos-rebel-t3-computer-usb-cable.html

Forget about using the cable to download images-
take out the SD card and insert it into the SD card slot in your computer.
If your computer doesn't have this slot, then use a simple device called a "card reader"-
the SD card goes in one end then the card reader is plugged into a USB port.

I feel your pain. This is one area where camera and electronics makers dropped the ball. I can understand how they wanted to move to smaller USB connectors, but once a new, smaller size in introduced, why do device makers keep using the older sizes. I have devices using the "standard" size, the mini, and the micro. Nikon seems to flip a coin deciding whether to use mini or micro. There is such a "micro" difference in size, so why bother to have - and use - both sizes?

The trick is learning the names of the connectors. Then you can shop on Amazon or ebay with confidence.

Maybe if you called the manufacturer they might know.
