Maybe it's time to give up on my camera, a D750 with a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 lens. I keep getting an error message, even after a hard reset by pulling the battery. I have gone through all camera settings to factory default. Lens & body set to AF.
In the past when doing video the auto focus has been "soft". At first I thought it was my eyes but in editing on the big screen I was very disappointed.
Perhaps a trip to the factory repair is in order. Maybe I need to check to see if all updates are in place. Has anyone had similar problems?

I think that's a good idea. A pain though.

Long shot. Have you tried using the camera with a Nikon branded lens (even if belonging to a friend)? Have you tried more than one SD or CF memory card in the camera? You might let the UHH Nikon owners know what specific error message(s) you get are (post a list of your error messages). Though I tend to agree that the camera may need Nikon Factory repairs.

Sorry to here that. Do you know how many clicks are on the shutter - just to an idea of how much use it's had? What is the error message - or it is just "err."

If the error only occurs when you use the Tamron, regardless whether for video or still shots, perhaps you should consider buying a different lens. And good video cameras are available today for very reasonable prices. If the “softness” issue is regarding both video and still shots, that could be a different issue entirely - certainly frustrating for you to have both issues occuring at the same time. Speak with Nikon tech support and, very likely, prepare to send both camera and Tamron lens to them for examination.

Yes I would send the camera to Nikon But Nikon does not work with 3rd party lenses

Seems a lot of reported problems with that tamron being soft.

UPDATE
Called Nikon repair. I tried another Nikon lens, same. Tried a third Nikon lens and everything worked ! ! ! went back to my Tamron lens, it also worked ! ! !
So what is the difference? Maybe the contacts were a not clean. The insertions may have wiped them clean. Who knows.
I bought the D750 in Dec 2014 (I think). I've been very careful when changing lenses, have never cleaned or blown out the interior. Still have do not have "dirt" marks in my photos!
If any are interested, my latest pix are on FaceBook. Search for Johanna James. These are all under stage lighting for Halloween effects. I feel lucky to have gotten the results I did.

However, Nikon prefers that you send the camera body alone. They well completely evaluate and if necessary repair it. They also clean and fix any necessary issues. At that point, you can completely take the camera out of the problem. I've never had a problem with Nikon's repairs. Once the camera returns from repair, if the issue continues, you can be sure it is the lens. Personally, I would bet on the lens anyway, but I've never had a lot of confidence in Tamron. I have a Tamron 10-24mm DX lens that tends to fisheye at 10mm and is soft focusing in the lower end of the zoom. Tamron has said that there is nothing wrong with the lens and to check the camera. The camera works fine with all of my other lenses and even a borrowed Nikkor 10-24 so I have my doubts about Tamron.
