Bull Elk seem like magnets to photographers and the cows seem to be overlooked. Here two photos of some beautiful cows. The second one has "frosted hair" courtesy of mother nature just after dawn.

Had some elk when I was out in Wyoming for a job interview back in the late 70's. Best tasting meat ever.

Interestingly, there is an over population of elk in the Rocky Mountain National Park. If you want to eat some more elk try visiting Grand Lake - it is served in restaurants! Perhaps we are a step away from returning wolves to RMNP?

Don't know how it's done now but back then they were highly regulated and the hunting was not only controlled but the state made a fortune charging for licenses for them. Out of stater's were paying well over $1000 for license and some have been on the waiting list for years. Even the state residents were highly regulated.

I believe there is elk hunting available outside the RMNP - although it appears that you must travel through RMNP to access some areas. I draw this conclusion from signs I saw posted.
