Shot with D7100, 300mm f4.5 Nikkor, and 1.4 Kenko Pro 300. It was set at f5.6, 1/800s, at ISO 200. Please comment with suggestions.

Shooting the moon (sic) can be frustrating, given atmospheric heat waves ruining focus, dust, local lighting, and much more. My first impression is that the shot may be underexposed, and that it likely was near the horizon, when atmospheric motion is common.
Here's one of my efforts, taken in early July, just before sunset but still high in the evening sky: D7000, IS0 200, 1/400, f8, at 400mm.
