One caveat I came across but could not confirm. It has been posted that once images are imbedded in a screensaver the original images can be removed from the computer.

If this is true , the images could be MIA

I just set up my screensaver. I browed to a folder and sub folder for pictures. I did this several different times.

Each time if I went back into screensaver settings and clicked browse, it took me to the sub folder that the pictures were in.

Chris,

Here is a page they may help. https://superuser.com/questions/795422/location-of-installed-screensavers-on-windows-7 . If you picked an image that you took, Windows normally defaults to your "Pictures" directory in your User Directory i.e. "C:\Users\"User Name"\My Pictures". Windows does not normally go beyond the default directory into any other directories under "My Pictures".

Even if you set it to go to a subfolder, Jon?

Then, that would mean I'd have to look into EVERY single subfolder ... that'd take a month of Sundays ... thanks!

If you are using Win10 {I believe 7 & 8 also} and go to "personalize" you have the option to "Browse". You can select any jpg image on any drive connected to the computer. The registry keeps track of it. The registry also keeps track of screensavers. I have none set so I used Wallpaper as an example.

Bill ... if I knew the number of the image ... that might help, but I have no idea what it is ....

To be honest, I don't even remember taking it ... but it is a really NICE shot ...

Not quite sure how I can find it, using this method ... I can't see the actual file, that way ....

In the case of wallpaper the registry gives you the name and location of the current wallpaper picture. I don't use screensavers so I never delved into the registry for that. But, if it doesn't have a registry entry it isn't in windows.

Depending on what quality image you need, hit 'prnt scrn' on the keyboard when the picture is on the screen. That will copy the screen into the clipboard so you can paste it into an imaging program. That's what I did above.

Chris,

If you go to the "Screen Saver Settings" (Right Click on Monitor Screen) then click on the "Settings" button in the dialog box it should tell you where it is using the images from.

Jon ... thanks, for all your tips ...

Only thing is - I directed the screensaver to take the images from select folders ....

In this case - all of the Sony cameras ...

I found this online. If it works you will be able to search your computer once you have the file name.

===================================================================

Microsoft had the functionality to display the filepath of the pictures shown in the screensaver in Windows XP. I've just switched from using Windows 7 to Windows 10. I used the same fix for showing the filepath in Windows 10 that I used for my Windows 7 computer. Here's my notes that I followed:

1) Copy ssmypics.scr from Windows XP (or get the file online) to c:windows:system32 in Windows 7. Can get this file from a computer that has the file.

2) Right click on ssmypics.scr after copying, and select “Install”.

3) Personalize the screensaver; in “Settings”, check “Show file names”, and click “OK”.

Okay, Bill ... that might work ... of the four desktops I use, only THIS one had Win 10 preloaded.

The others, I upgraded. One had 8, one had 8.1, and the other had 7 ... so maybe it's on that one ... I'll look!

Hold it, you are having the screen saver pull images from your cameras or from folders on your HD labeled Sony Bodies?
