Following the alarming story about the decline (90% in the past two decades) in the Monarch butterfly population, I have developed a mild obsession with trying to photograph these beautiful creatures. I am sadly reminded of that rock song entitled "Don't know what you got till it's gone."
Guilty as charged, I suppose.
Anyway, this particular specimen arrived at my marigold patch just before sunset a couple days back. For our area, this is the start of the migration season for the Monarch and fellow pollinators essential to our Earth's food supply.
The clarity isn't the best, but I like the contrasting colors and tones and the mood afforded by the setting sun. I pray it's not an omen.
