In the case of wallpaper the registry gives you the name and location of the current wallpaper picture. I don't use screensavers so I never delved into the registry for that. But, if it doesn't have a registry entry it isn't in windows.
Depending on what quality image you need, hit 'prnt scrn' on the keyboard when the picture is on the screen. That will copy the screen into the clipboard so you can paste it into an imaging program. That's what I did above.
