No. He saw it on the monitor. It must be in there.

You can find the location of your desktop image in the Windows Registry.

Run Regedit then click on the following folders.

HKEY_Current_User

Control Panel

Desktop

Wallpaper

If you are not familiar with the registry you could screw up your computer!

I don't think you can identify the image currently being displayed. I have the same frustration. It would be nice if you could hit a key combo to "identify" it, but as soon as you touch the mouse or a key, it goes away.

Yes, Longshadow ... that would be great, wouldn't it?

That's what they need to incorporate into PCs, the next time there's a major upgrade.

Of course, it might also be a help, if cameras tacked on the shot number directly to the image ....

That would be a help, too ....

Bill ... first off ... thanks for that tip ...

I know what you're getting at ....

Unfortunately, if you don't know the number of the image, as you can't find it in the folder, that won't help.

Longshadow ... pardon me, but, if I knew where to find them - why would I be asking this question?

All I know is - they are somewhere on the hard drive. If they weren't, the screensaver wouldn't show them.

But, as I indicated, already ... the ones I want, are NOT in the folders.

Thus, the Screensaver must be picking them up from somewhere else. I just want to know where.

If you are talking about the default wallpapers they reside in "C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\".

If you set the File Explorer to "Large Icon" you can see the image instead of the file name.

If you right click on an image and do a "Save As" you can then direct the image to what ever folder on the PC you want. Then you can got to that folder to find the image and right click on it and then click on "Set as Desktop Background". Hope this helps.

Jon ... thanks very much for the suggestion. This isn't about wallpaper, though. It's to do with the screensaver.

When you set up the screensaver to show your pictures, you can direct it to look in certain folders, to find the pics you want to be shown, by the screensaver. When you see a picture in the screensaver you want, if you press a key at that moment, you lose the screensaver. Then, all you can do is look for it, item by item, in the folders. But, if it's not in the folders, you're plumb outta luck, as far as identifying the picture you want to copy. Thanks, though.

Jerry ... thanks for the tip ...

Not sure how that would help, though ...

That computer isn't ON the Web ....

I did, JPL ... that's my frustration ... you see, the image doesn't seem to be ON the hard drive ...

At least, not - in the folders, I directed the screensaver to use for "the show" ....

I suppose it could be in another folder, but I cannot think why the screensaver would even GO to another one!

Depends on how they were originally organized (titled folders?)- or if you have a rough idea of when they were taken.

I store all my images in folders entitled by the name and model of the camera used to shoot them.

This makes it easier to direct the screensaver to only show images from a specific camera, or set of cameras.

In this particular instance, I had directed the screensaver to look only at Sony DSLRs.

Not sure I understand the reference to when they were taken. I'm trying to find an image I like, to copy.

I know nothing about when it was taken, or its frame number. I only know it was in the Sony folder.

I've only known the screen saver to use a single directory (and it's sub-directories) once you tell it a directory to use. My screen saver doesn't go all over the hard drive to get images. They (it) should be there.

If you are using Win10 {I believe 7 & 8 also} and go to "personalize" you have the option to "Browse". You can select any jpg image on any drive connected to the computer. The registry keeps track of it. The registry also keeps track of screensavers. I have none set so I used Wallpaper as an example.
