Hey Hedgehogs, it’s time for another Weekly Photo Challenge.

These are more about challenging yourself than worrying that your photo isn’t good enough so everyone is invited especially those who want to improve.

The challenges are simple. You start you off with a theme, but where you take it is up to you! The twist is that everyone needs to submit a short statement along with their photo that explains the ‘who, what, where, why, when or how’ they went through to get it. This helps us ‘feel’ the moment as they did, but can also help with voting. You might also find some great tips to make you better.

Now for the legal stuff:
- Contests start Friday mornings and end Wednesday evenings
- Voting starts Thursday morning and ends Thursday evening
- One entry per user, but if you need an update send a Private Message
- All entries must include a photo and a quick statement as noted above
- Post processing is fine, but please keep it to the absolute minimum
- Everyone gets one vote - if you vote more than once your last vote counts
- Once voting starts there can be no additional entries
- To keep it fair, I will hide the user names and vote counts until voting is over and winners are announced. All votes are anonymous
- And of course, the rules are subject to change as the challenges require

If you need me for any reason, send a Private Message or leave a Reply.

Above all remember this is about challenging yourself – pushing beyond the limits you think you have – so have fun with it and try anything and everything whether you are good at it or not. Make it fun and thank you all! This wouldn’t be possible without you. St3v3M

Just noticed the heading "Dog Day Afternoon" and I have no idea in any shape or form what this means. I was wondering if it is a famous American saying. I have completely drawn a blank. I googled it and the only thing really returning any hits is a 1975 Al Pacino movie about a bank robbery.

Otherwise I could maybe steal a dog and shoot it in the afternoon light but I think this theme is intended to have a much deeper meaning than this.

I know these competitions have supposed to get us thinking and add our own spin on things but I feel I am at a huge disadvantage, being I am from the UK, if it is an American saying. Just wondered, if it is allowed, if anybody could please hint without saying too much to compromise their own inspiration as to what this saying means. Please check before replying to me though incase you get banned from the competition yourself.

Otherwise I will have to sit this one out.

Many thanks in anticipation.

If this is your competition entry shouldn't it be uploaded to the other bit so its anonymouse? If so I would delete it quick and repost in the correct place before too many people see it. As per my last post if this is for the competition I am still none the wiser. If anything even more confused as to the meaning!

American term. I usually do not put too much stock in Wikipedia but here you go anyway http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_Days

Thanks RTR theres plenty of meaning for it in there. Not that we are having much of a summer here in the UK. Flash floods and the wettest on record. Its rained nearly every day here in the last weeks and not going to pick up until mid September from what people say.

Well I know you have some replays but I thought I would add some info. Here in the US when we say dog day afternoon it can mean several things. Usually it's a lazy summer day or dog days being really hot days that make us feel lazy because we don't want to be out in the heat of the afternoon. When I think of dog day afternoon I like to think of those lazy summer days. Since you are in the UK your dog day afternoon could be the rain since it has been so rainy there. Spin dog day afternoon to mean what causes you to not want to do anything, whether it be too hot or in your case too rainy. I like to read and be lazy when it rains so that could easily be a dog day afternoon for you. What makes you feel lazy like you don't want to do anything or is there somewhere you like to go or something you like to do when you don't feel like putting up with other people or the world anymore. Put your own spin on it.
