I am having a problem with my scanner. I scan a few photo and everything is fine. Then on the next scan the image comes in much smaller, with the whole scanner window showing. I open the lid and scan again. Sometimes it goes back to the larger image, and other times it doesn't. I have opened both versions in Light room and the smaller image is not of the same quality as the larger image. I scan all my images at 600DPI. I have attached a smaller image and a larger image. Any recommendations. Thank you. ChiefEW
These are prints and not negatives correct? I assume that there is a software package that came with the scanner that you are using when you scan these. Try reloading the software package and see what happens. It sounds like there is a default setting that is changing for some reason on the second scan.
Do you place the photo in the same place on the scanner glass each time? And I understand it should not make a difference just looking for quick fix or easy answers.
I have the same scanner but have not had your problem (yet). Being an IT person, my first response to this would be to uninstall and reinstall the software. If that doesn't work, then delete the scanner and re-add it, and ask Windows to NOT use the driver already there. Let it pull a new copy and install that one.
What OS are you running? Any updates lately?
I have the Epson Perfection V800, which I would guess the soft ware would be similar. It allows the image to be cropped and the resulting size and DPI to be chosen.
Place the picture in the center of the glass
and not along the edge.
My Epson scanner application, installed from a V500, has a Preview scan feature that when used allows one to use a marque tool to select the area to be scanned in the final scan operation. If one doesn't use this step, the entire area of the scanner bed will be scanned, such as what is seen in the first example posted. If one selects the marque tool in that Preview dialog screen, the marque frame appears in a default size. If one doesn't adjust that frame to include the entire image one is scanning, you will get a cropped image very much like the second image posted.

Do you check where the 'crop' lines are in the Preview panel first, before final scan?

How would that make any difference?
