The 850 easily replaces the functionalities of both the 810 and 500. Plus it has many addition features not found in the 810 or 500. It is a no brained - buy the 850 and sell the other two.

But Dan, there are no thorough reviews.

If the resources were available and you presently owned the D810 and D500 would you sell one or both and buy the D850?

Under the conditions that the resources are available, I would definitely sell the d810 and upgrade to the d850. That being said, I think that I would wait a few months and make sure the hype lives up to the camera before making that decision. Everything sounds great on paper, but I am waiting until I can hold the camera in my hands, and see what others think before purchasing. Just my two cents worth.

Will never again be early adopter of Nikon gear. Did that with D800 and never again. Worked out in the end but required a return to Nikon for 3 month old camera. Most likely will get 850 but not for at least 8 months

I do like the newer design and it seems to fit my hands well. Not much other experience as yet. I will begin using it for jobs this week. I will post what I think after a bit of use.

I bought a new D800E when they came out and its worked like a champ since day one, cameras are just like all complicated machines, some good some bad. I guess people flush with money can afford the latest upgrades, kinda like Iphones, the commercial with the guy that states the next Iphone, mic jack was going to be on the bottom, then did the head explode thing.

Is worth the 3k for a button in a different place, 10mp over the D800E , and maybe a little change in the focus speed or metering?

JB - I took the original post as a theoretical question. Personally I've decided to wait 6months before ordering an 850.

6 months would be a good idea. Perhaps get the included grip at that point for free

I bought the Nikon D300, Nikon D810, Nikon D500, when? Anywhere between 12 and 18 mouths after it's introduction. Price came down and received the vertical grip for free. To wait is my option. I enjoy the upgrade of the long wait of the Nikon D500, only questioned why not having this in full frame? Within months ..... Nikon D850. I will buy, but when the option of the vertical grip. As all other purchases, I am pleased. For now, with the collection I possess will do just fine as I Learn the full potential of the Nikon D500, preparing me for The Nikon D850.

You previously said it was a no brainer. Second thoughts? Maybe you have a brain after all.

Seimslie - I ask, would I be reading your posts if I had a brain? -- I cancelled my pre-order. I'm out of the country for 7 weeks starting at the end of Sept. The 850 wouldn't have arrived in time. -- I'll let the dust settle before buying one.
