If you have a local camera store check it out. The price won't be higher than reputable online dealers like B&H but you have to pay sales tax (legally you still have to pay sales tax buying online). When I bought my camera 3.5 years ago my local store price was actually $17 less than B&H price but I do have to pay $250 for the sales tax. To me it's worth it to support the local stores. At the very least they let me actually handle the camera before I buy. I really hate buying things sight unseen. For a camera like my Nikon Df, it's difficult to actually see it before buying it as big box stores don't have them in store for you to check it out. They would order it for you though but that's not the same.

Will your local shop let you buy it, use it and if not happy with it return it for a refund up to 30 days after purchase? B&H will.
You may have a really super local camera shop...but most people don't in todays world.

I'm looking at the Canon 5Dm4. Any advise on where to but it, and should it be new?

Great still camera. Mediocre video compared to industry expectations.

Buy used or refurbished from Adorama, B&H, Cameta Camera, Canon, or KEH.

New is highly overrated. Let someone else take the "initial depreciation hit." But be sure to get a warranty that suits your personal level of risk tolerance.

Beware gray market or "international" merchandise, which does not come with a US warranty. It's a lot less expensive, but finding warranty service from Canon is a problem. They will repair for a fee, but won't honor international warranties, which have to be handled by the dealer.

Big "on line" retailers are nice but find a local retailer get to know them shop where you have a face to deal with if your "stuck" you'll have a friend to help you
Little known fact the manufacturer sets list price and retailers can't deviate from that

Canon refurbished currently has it for $2,799.20 body only compared to full price at 3,299.00. A $500.00 savings. See http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-5d-mark-iv-body-refurbished.

Take a look at "Canonpricewatch.com" This site will give you better pricing and will give you a "street price" option, and will tell you if the price is for a U.S. warranty or not. I bought my latest lens through them and go a photo printer with the lens as a extra. So, I got my Canon EF 100-400mm "L" lens and a new printer for less than the lens cost. Canon Price Watch has the 5D Mark IV for $2999, and also a package with either the 24-105, or 24-70mm lenses for just a bit more.

There are many places/stores you can trust. Hunt's, Midwest Camera, Samy's, KEH, Adorama in NYC, Robert's Camera in Indiana, and of course, B&H in NYC. Amazon is a good place because of the Amazon guarantee. Always check the customer reviews carefully.

I bought a refurb from Nikon and have had no problems.

YMMV

Assuming you're in the U.S.... B&H Photo, Adorama, Beach Camera, Amazon Direct, or most any other authorized Canon USA dealer. Beware of unknown, fly-by-night websites. If you see anyone offering prices much lower than the largest sellers (B&H, Adorama, Amazon Direct)... be a bit suspicious and very careful.

It's a relatively new model, so you will not find many being sold used and they don't show up very often "refurbished" on the Canon USA website, either. HOWEVER, they do happen to have 5DIV in stock there right now.... if it represents any significant savings, $2800 plus shipping and sales tax: https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-5d-mark-iv-body-refurbished. (Note: currently Canon USA is offering free shipping on purchases over $100. Refurbished are often little different from new.... might be a demo model or similar that saw little use. Canon refurbs have same warranty as new, too... but are now only available online through the Canon USA store, at the link above.)

New it's selling for $3300, body only (at B&H Photo, for example, who include free shipping and only charge sales tax if you're in NY). With EF 24-105L IS USM "II" kit lens, it's selling for $4200, so you'd be getting that lens for $900 (normally sells for $1100). If it were me, I'd probably buy it in kit with the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM (sharper & closer focusing than the 24-105L), which is also offered for $4050. All these prices are after Instant Rebates that are currently in effect (but only apply to new items, not to refurbs such as above).

I just bought the 5d mk iv from Greentoe. You set the price and they will find a seller. Always new and USA Warranteed items. My order is shipping from Adorama for $3199. The model that I purchased also included C-log (which normally sells for $3399. I added $20 for UPS 2nd Day Air. Total bill (including shipping is $3219)

Check out local shops and big box stores. Sometimes they will price match. Then compare with online vendors. You will save cost of sales tax in many cases at the very least by ordering online. That said, there is nothing like one-on-one with experienced photographers at your local store. Buy it there and they will always be with you for advice and help.

The 5dMKIV is a good item. I use B&H almost exclusively, I would start there. After the sale service and exchanges are great.
I have a 5dMKII that is nearing the end of its service life. Instead of upgrading to the MKIV I am considering the 6dMKII that just came out. I have rarely used the video features on the MKII and I don't see using it in the future. My iPhone does a good job there. The 6dMKII has a wifi feature that I want along with high ISO capability. Finally the 6dMKII IS ABOUT $1400.00 less than the 5dMKIV and $400.00 less than what I paid for my MKII.

Any cheaper places?

Try greentoe.com. I have purchased several camera items through them. They are similar to a broker. You tell them what you would like to pay. They then check around and see if there is any dealer will to sell at your offer. They may come back nd tell you to up your offer a bit.

It's been about two years since I bought anything through them, but as I recall, I saved abou 5-10%, which is better than list price. Check the out and see if you like their business model. It worked for me.
