More Practice Bending...
I went out last evening to practice on the nearest rose bush, bending my Composer Pro with the Double Glass optic as Donna demonstrated. Had to delete every picture but these two. The top picture is focused almost where I wanted it, but is still slightly off. I was aiming for the upper left flower. The second pic turned out the way I wanted it.
I used my monopod with three little feet which is fairly steady, but trying to use the LCD screen was a non-starter because I couldn't see the image well enough with the sunlight. So, these were focused using the viewfinder, taking a picture that looked in focus, then moving the bend a tiny bit and taking another one, etc.
Donna, I used the F8 aperture disc as you suggested to focus initially with the lens pointing straight ahead, then bent the lens, checked that it was still in focus, and then inserted the F4 disc. Was a bit fiddly, but worked! Thank you for that suggestion!
I'll be practicing this evening on something else provided it's not too smokey. And I'm going to break down and use a tripod.
Cathy, I think you've gotten the hang of it, especially with #2, I can see exactly where you pointed and focused!!
Question: Why don't you use the Sweet 35 or 50 so you don't have to switch the aperture discs manually??

Good question! lol! I figure, if I can use it successfully, I'll be able to use the others successfully too.

lol! I don't blame you. The story of my life: don't take the easy way out!
What's wrong with this picture?!

Hahahahaaa.... absolutely nothing, as long as you can laugh at it!!!
Looks like you're doing great, Cathy, and your images are lovely! Agree with Angela about using the 'sweets' so you don't have to fiddle with aperture disks. I learned how to bend using closeups, but I think I prefer bending with landscapes, because it's not as important to get a sharp focus...or in other words cheat a bit. lol You know the smaller your aperture the larger your sweet spot which makes it easier to focus too!
Yes, I know that. Landscapes are easier, and so are the Sweet 35 and Sweet 50. I just like the strong effects of the Double Glass. I'm just playing.
Great shots, Cathy, and I can see you're definitely making progress! You're a brave soul, using the Double Glass and switching apertures. I'd be dropping them all over the place and losing them. My next Lensbaby adventure is going to be bending, as soon as I get the Velvet 56 out of my system. I just love it so much, and I can't stop using it. I need to discipline myself I guess!
Thanks for another great experiment!

Thank you for the great comment, Jane. I have that same fear of dropping the discs. In fact, what I did was to take the F8 and F4 out of the holder, putting the F8 in the lens and the other one in my pocket. Then, I felt like I was all thumbs changing of discs while trying to keep the monopod still. Didn't work well. I need to use a tripod which will make it much easier.
Hi Cathy. I think you nailed it on number two.

I think so too, Dan. For me, using the viewfinder to get the center of focus where I want it to be is hit or miss without a tripod. Thank you very much for commenting!
