A flower from my morning walk
Looks like one of the Lygodesmia Genus, aka skeletonplant.
Here in Texas we have the Lygodesmia texana which is more violet than your flower.
Thank you, I was not sure what kind it was. there were a few growing on a bank in between clover in front of an old school yard and it looked interesting. It's the first one I ever saw in PA.
Check out Chicory, genus Cichorium, an introduced Asteraceae (composit) weed from the Mediterranean area. I've tried to plant it several times by broadcasting seeds in my yard, but no luck, even though it is widespread and common along roadsides in CA and MD where I've lived. It's a beautiful flower, beautifully shown in your photo, but scraggly growth. Since the growth form is similar, the Texas ID of 'skeletonplant' and perhaps the more recent genus name may be correct -- my info is generations old.
Yes, I checked out Chicory, It it close,The color is almost the same. Now I'm not sure which it is. Thank you for your input.
Where in PA did you find this flower, polonois? We live in eastern PA and I can't remember ever seeing one like it!
In Columbia,PA near one of the old schools that is now an apartment house.
