No, he and my Grandad had a business making caravans and were very good at bending 'sheet' materials such as plywoods. Lived in Greenford. I'm guessing that would have been a long commute back then so he probably stayed out here somewhere but never mentioned it, even when we moved out here much later.
When the war was over, plastics were in full swing. They never recovered the old caravan business.

The FREIND at HAND pub closed in 1998 and is now in residential use.

Paul Allen's "Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum" in Everett, WA, held their annual "Skyfair" event today, and the main attraction was the first official public flight of their newly restored de Havilland Mosquito. The Mosquito was a jack-of-all-trades for the RAF during WWII, serving from 1942 through the end of the war as a light bomber, night fighter, photo-reconnaissance and maritime attack plane... not bad for an aircraft made almost entirely of wood! Most of the restoration and testing was done in New Zealand, and the plane was shipped to the museum in Everett for re-assembly and painting. It's painted in the RAF "night intruder" scheme of gray and olive topside, and flat black undersurfaces. The Mosquito is now a permanent part of FHCAM's collection, and is scheduled to fly again at their "European Theater Day" on August 26th.

Beautiful restoration and pics. Wish I had known about this museum when I was assigned to the 318th FIS at McChord in the mid 80's. They were begining to collect airframes for a museum, the first was an F-101 from Canada.

The Mosquito could take the same bomb load as the early Flying Fortress and take it to Berlin. It was seldom armed as the German fighters had a job keeping up with it. It was a bit of a pig to land on one engine but that apart had few vices.De Havilland made them on spec as the government would not order them at first. One of the best aircraft of the war on any side.

1940's design classic, great shots. Just wondering if it's possible to take a bad shot of this ikon.
