Hi. I have been looking at this Forum for about three weeks and joined about a week ago.
I am an older photo taker going back to my old Petri that I bought in the Philippines in 1965.
Went to digital with a Sony Alpha7and moved to Canon three years ago.
I am curious as to which photo mags the other members read. I had subscribed to Pop Photo but that is now discontinued.
Any suggestions??

Go to Photo Plus, "The Canon Magazine'. Produced in England and sold at Barnes and Noble. Not a cheap magazine ,but it has every thing you would want to know. $13 bucks at B&N. I love it and pick it up whenever I see an interesting article on the front page. Go for it.

Welcome to UHH, Hassie. I found that a lot of magazines will tailor articles that support their largest advertisers. Thus, I may read an article or two, while enjoying a cup of coffee at the local B and N, but rarely purchase any of them. The only one I tend to purchase is Silvershotz.

I was a subscriber to Pop Photo, and have been for years and years. I also subscribe to Shutterbug and enjoy that one as well. Seems today that anything printed is going away, except for publications like National Geographic where the photography and stories are way above wonderful. I tend to prefer real life touching, or perhaps personal testing, to anything published. I sometimes find published reviews helpful, but not always complete. Best of luck.

There's still Shutterbug and Outdoor Photographer. However, in my opinion, the best photo mags are published in the UK - check them out at Barnes & Noble.

Welcome to UHH.
I used to subscribe to Pop Photo, Shutterbug, Digital Photo and N-Photo (which is the Nikon version of the magazine that bootnose mentioned). The first three have too many ads. N-Photo is really good, and I'm sure the Canon version is just as good. But too expensive for me.

"Digital Camera" a UK mag that gets mailed across the world to me every month. Excellent value

I have subscribed to Shutterbug since its beginning in the 70's. It started as a full broad-sheet canary yellow trading paper much like the old 'Trade-a-plane' for the used aircraft market, only, of course the content was exclusive photographic.. Bought some good camera and darkroom equipment via its pages. It has morphed into a top of the line color magazine and I still enjoy reading it for its reviews of photo equipment. It broadened its content to include photo contests, and subject matter that addresses technique and good articles on lighting and camera procedure.

It is a sad thing about Pop Photo. I had subscribed to it for many years also. The articles in it had good content on darkroom procedure back in the day when we used darkrooms. Also had good articles about some of the 'primitive' photo processes and how you could do them. Don't forget there was also a 'Modern Photography' magazine. They died some years back.

Pop Photo will be missed, but I suspect we will eventually see the demise of more and more printed publications. Two reasons I can see for this is that the world is enamored with electronic media and nobody reads much anymore.

I second Bootnose's suggestion of photo Plus, the canon mag. I frequently pick it up at B&N and then pass it on to other camera club members.

And welcome to UHH!
