I would definitely stop fooling around and take the card to a professional photo or computer person . Other precautions for the future- use a camera with 2 card slots, download photos to an external HD or laptop daily while on vacation. There are companies that all they do is recover data- may be worth the $.

If you are running Windows on your computer ... insert the memory card into the appropriate slot on your computer > find your way to File Explorer > down the left hand side of the screen, look for DCIM > select and open and you should see your photos. If that doesn't work; try using a friends computer (let your friend look for your photos - it's their computer).
PS
If your computer simply does not see your camera memory card ....
If you have always removed your card reader and flash drives by simply pulling them out of the computer slot w/o first going through the step of letting the computer eject and tell you when it's "Safe to remove hardware" ... this could be the cause. 99 times out of 100 nothing will happen; and then one day the computer will not see the card reader or the or the flash drive when you plug them in. It's a good idea to remove everything "Gracefully". It's a good habit to get into, even if it is not the cause of your current trouble.

What can using a camera with two card slots do for this lady? Her camera may have two card slots. What then? She has a card that is not reading in her computer. If she had 100 card slots in her camera she would still have the same exact problem.

I'm not sure the shots are lost. When I put the card in the camera and I check them their all there. I'm hoping it's something simple. I think I need to take a break on this for the evening. Thanks for your comments.

Lets hope they are not lost. Is there another PC or Laptop you can use?? Perhaps a friend.

Not a bad idea. Take a break and come back to this later.

I suggest moving that little switch on the card to LOCK just to play it safe while you're trying different things.

You may have inadvertently flipped the tiny switch on the card. It should be in the "up" position.

Well I just got back from my Alaska trip and I'm panicking. I'm trying to download my photos from the memory card to my pc. I keep getting error message "no photos found". When I put the card in the camera the pictures show up. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

It isn't the number of slots ... if the camera has two slots then you can put in two memory cards. An option on the camera will allow the camera to write to both cards simultaneously there by creating a backup. If something should destroy the files on the card the OP is currently working with, there is the backup card still sitting in the camera. There are usually other options for that second card; on my camera, I can shoot jpg on one card and raw on the other, the second card can be set to be an overflow card, all in all a nice feature to have; not necessary, but nice.

I am not expert on these things but let me thouw my two ceants worth in. Your first post said that your computer sshpwed some message "no photos found.

This suggests to me that you are using some photo programme which you have not identified and your problem is most likely within that programme. If you are using such a programme then I recommend that you ignore it for the moment. If your camera can "see" the image files then all is well. As mentioned in other posts, protect the sd card by locking it then insert it into the slot in your computer; if it is a micro sd card then you may need to use an adaptor. Windows 10 should automatically open the card but if it does not do so, then use file explorer.

If all fails then do the same procedure on a friends computer. Your camera is telling the truth as it can see the images, but your photo programme or the computer may be at fault, most likely any photo programme which you may be using.

Good luck.
Ron

You should be able to see the image files within a folder titled DCIM

Please don't format anything right now, you will delete all your pictures, just keep trying different ways possible, sometimes my pictures won't download and I have to try 3 or 4 times before they will download, don't know why but apparently something doesn't recognize my reader or my reader is confused and then I am a nervous mess afraid I will lose my pictures, good luck to you.

Are they in RAW format? They would show up on your camera screen but might not be recognized by the computer. But the Canon program should recognize them. Question - does the card itself show up when you open up the "Computer" task button? If it does, then the computer is recognizing the card OK (a corrupted card generally will not even appear there).

I understand now what you were saying. I did not understand your reasoning for using the second card slot as a duplicate rather than an extra place for overfilling the first slot. I use the second card, SD/CF only for more than the SD card can hold. My question was, of course, if she can't download one card how will she download a second card.

I did some Google search. Apparently Windows10 has been a problem with downloading photos. So I'll have to try the solution.

My Windows 10 system works fine with / for UL or DL Photos*. Have you tried to USB Cable your photos directly from your camera, leaving the card in the camera, no separate Card Reader either? Your camera should have come with such a cable and a software CD-ROM. As far as I know Windows will not / can not tell a Camera to reformat anything. As suggested, try Windows (file) Explorer to navigate to your camera. Yes, find the folder titled DCIM. Your photo transfer program whatever it is / where ever from (Windows, Photoshop, Lightroom, ACR, your camera brand's software, etc.), it is possible that some obtuse update to Windows, Adobe, Canon, occurred automatically while you were away and has now caused a problem. I can only guess. If you still can't transfer your photos, take the card out of the camera, buy a new card, format it in the camera, take troubled card to a camera repair service to get your photos transferred to some other media. Your photos are on the card! Then and only then once your photos are safely on your drive(s), reformat the original card in the camera. And you may need help figuring out why the files don't transfer now (later, find a computer guru for yourself).

* True my system came new with Windows 10 (Home) directly from Dell / Costco. I have Windows 10 Pro on my Wife's former Windows 7 Pro (Win 8.1 era) machine too. Though I don't do much photo PP on her PC. I think most of the Win 10 problems are on older systems that barely run Win 10.

Good morning! Try accessing the pictures on your camera without your card. It could be you got in a hurry and forgot to put your card in the camera. Good luck it's a terribe feeling to lose images.

Tried that it didn't work either.
