I hold you in high respect. You were one of a couple of members who very gently taught me to use the "quote reply" button when I was a newbie here. For that I will be forever grateful. It is also a lesson I try to pass on to others as needed.

Take care!

You as well. Good shooting to you.

Dennis

The price on that is not "1500 or under" as per OP's request.

The Nikon D7200 is pretty darn good for his purpose. I'm sure Canon hassome candidates, but I know very little about Canon models.

His D3000 lenses will work with it too. Refurbs are scarce but sometimes come up.

Otherwise I'd suggest D5500 which takes same images.

Hands down, no question about it, you have to be kidding if you don't do it, the D500, when on sale. It will cost you a little more but you will get SO MUCH MORE.

Dennis, I did not mean to horsewhip you! Lately there has been a spate of topics requesting suggestions for the best camera for whatever purpose with a $ limit included. Then when someone suggests a camera that is over the limit, the OP says NO, over budget. My comment was really intended to alert the OP that the D500 was over the stated budget.

I agree with you completely that it is up to the OP to decide. It was my intention to simply provide a bit more info. BTW, I have a D7200 which was purchased prior to the announcement of the D500. Had I been aware of the D500 I more than likely would have gone that route for the additional money.

Please accept my apology for any upset my comment caused you. It was most definitely meant that way.

Look on ebay. In search window place the following number: 162555115940

That will take care of what you are looking for.

A bit suspicious, I think. Who is importunlimited? The camera is in Ocala, FL, but delivery is estimated on or before June 30, and the seller has no feedback.

33 feedback as a seller, 100% .
If I needed a D500, I would go for it. Besides, if there is a real problem, you can get your $$ back from Paypal. I have on a couple of occasions.

That feedback was about the product, not the seller.

I assume you have Nikon lenses and want to continue to use them.... in which case the D7200 or the new D7500 would definitely be your best choices within your budget. The D7200 is currently selling for just under $1000 for the body alone. You can put the remaining $500 aside toward a future lens purchase or some accessories you may need. The latest-and-greatest of this series, the D7500 is selling for about $1250, body only. Coming from your D3000, the D7200 would be a big upgrade and the D7500 even a bit more-so. Either of which would be fully capable of handling what you want to shoot.

Personally I use Canon gear and for equestrian/wildlife shoots, primarily a pair of 7D Mark II. Those each cost me less than your budget (body only... I already had a bunch of lenses acquired over the past 15 years) and 7DII work great for even the fastest action:

HOWEVER switching brands - either to Canon like I use or to Sony that another response suggested or anything else other than Nikon - is bound to cost far more than you've budgeted!

The D7200 or D7500 are the highest performance Nikon equivalent that's comfortably within your budget. Sure, among all the current models the D500 would be the best possible Nikon for your purposes... but even on sale it's $400 over your budget.
