No comment on longevity since we are LED intolerant, but I do dislike the blue-white light I have seen in other places that they emit.

You can purchase them in different outputs, cool to warm. The warm ones are more like the old incandescent bulbs with more of a yellow hue.

I see the knuckle draggers have invaded UHH.

Why are you having so much trouble? I don't have a clue. Replaced three fluorescent fixtures in my mom's house about five years ago with LED tube fixtures ... still going strong. Those CFL's do not last long though. Have replaced all but one light (chandelier, and that one is next) in my house with LEDs.

They work for me ... even on dimmers (I replaced them too).

About a year ago I changed all the incandescent and CFL light bulbs in my house and replaced them with LED lights. You know, the ones that are supposed to last just short of forever? A month ago, the first one failed and now, a second one (number 2), is cutting off and on and getting ready to crap out (no pun intended). This was the same behavior exhibited by the first one that failed so I expect it will go at any time. To be sure, I like the light from the bulbs and the power savings they give, but really. The old burn-the-wire-to-make-light bulbs lasted as long as ten years at my place so I'm not impressed with the longevity of the new ones. One, okay maybe I can see that, but two? In a year? Hrmph.

By the way, does anyone else remember when the local utility company, Detroit Edison in my case, used to replace burned out bulbs with new ones on a one-to-one basis? Thomas Edison call your office.

I never even had trouble with the old fashioned bulbs. That one place I stayed a little more than 20 years for example, I had to replace one bulb in all those years, that is actually the only one I ever replaced in my whole life before I came to this country!

Just like every other facet of life, the government dictated that we no longer could buy indecent bulbs and made us start buying these pieces of crap. The things are full of mercury and if we disposed of them properly would require we call out a local hazmat unit dressed in full safety regalia. I have lost count on how many of these things I have had to replace when they burned out in almost no time.

Scratching my head on what makes a bulb indecent?

Perhaps you meant incandescent?

They do make "soft" LED lamps that are much warmer, almost like the "old" incandescent ones; about 3500 Kelvin (also ones that are below 3000 K)...

Dale, don't remember the Gold Bell stamps but I do remember the (Holden's?) red stamps. Gave them out at the service station where I worked after high school. A real PITA when it was raining, standing at the driver's window in the rain trying to separate the right amount of sticky stamps with wet hands.

I read a novel once where there was a naked bulb in a dingy motel room. I wonder if that qualifies?

I do remember Holden's as well as S&H Green stamps
They had a redemption store on Fort St. just west of Southfield
Not old enough to have been a service station attendant, but perhaps I watched you as you peeled stickers from book and gave them to my parents long ago

At least at my Lowe's there are LEDs of various hues. Some daylight, soft white etc.

If you have a Batteries Plus any where close by, check them out. Their warranty is 5 years & you don't have to keep the box or a receipt.

When this "fad" took over and and all the incandescent bulbs were being phased out I bough several of the new bulbs that would last for years and years. The cost of each bulb was ridiculous compared to the old bulbs. The first new bulb burned out in less than a year, second a couple months after that. Once they started to eliminate the production of the old bulbs I started to buy them in large quantities and store them in my basement. I have relatives and friends who will come over and ask if they can have a package or two. They have experienced the same as I did, the new led bulbs and the others don't last anywhere near as long as they're supposed to.

I just bought 10 100w led bulbs from the Dollar Tree. These are Sunbeam bulbs. So far I'm loving them, and they make a nice, natural looking light. I sure hope they last longer than the GE and Dollar General brand incandescent bulbs. We have to use 100w bulbs because of the high (12') ceilings and you can't buy clear or non-frosted bulbs in 100w. We don't have ac so I really like that they don't put out heat. $1:00 was pretty cheap so if they fail, I won't lose any sleep over it.
