I've never tried the extended low. The extended high are kinda useless.

I would not go below base ISO unless it's the only way to get a once in a life time image...Most try and shoot @ there base ISO because of the greatest dynamic range is available. Like the d810 which is 14.8 stops or EV. .....@ 64 ISO.

With this camera I can get really good show prints (16X24) up to and including 3200. Why go low when you can now go HIGH and get great results. How big of print do you expect to make?

Funny you posted this because I was reading about it in the manual last night and even Nikon recommends not going below ISO 100. For the heck of it I might try to do some test shots to see how they look (as I did with the higher ISO's)

You may want to explore the reasons for going LO,particularly when it can be used as a sort of ND filter without actually lowering the ISO.

I don't know if I clearly understand your inquiry ... I am 89 yr 'young', but do have the 'age tremors' (minimal) and use the D500 with a 70- 300 mm zoom, ISO 8000, in "Aperture-Preferred Mode to photograph flowers ... with excellent results, to my taste and some friends as well. My suggestions is that you experiment with the various settings and determine the settings that gets the results you want ... Best of luck and best wishes.

Hi Lloyd,

I am 81 yr. 'young'. A suggestion that can help reduce the effect of the shakes. Make sure you have the D500 on a strap (I have a wrist one) when taking the photo - point the camera - take a few deeper breaths. with your finger on the expose button, after breathing out relax your muscles (Not too much as you are holding the camera) and gently squeeze the button - keeping relaxed until after the exposure. (Sharpshooter technique). This is an example with my D500
The 16-80 mm lens set to 16mm ( Lakeshore Park Oshawa)

16mm
f/6.3
ISO 400
Exposure 1/1600 sec.
The top photo is the original and the lower one is a crop taken from the RAW file.

I'm 68 yr old since we are all sharing. I have a new Nikon D750 and recently was a backup photographer for a friends wedding saw a utube video and shot in auto ISO with a speed of 200 and ISO range of 100 to 12,500 and even at the high range the photos are not noisy or grainy...so different from my previous D300.

And it's only getting better with each new model. Soon we won't need flash units.

If it is a Nikon mid range camera they typically are set at 200 ISO. I believe the 1.0 must mean ISO 100. Also ask that question on google u will also get an answer to your question. ISO 200 is plenty to have little to no noise in your photos.
