There was a lengthy discussion about this a couple of years ago, and as a result, I began tying my laces the recommended way. It didn't help at all.

I do that sometimes, but untying them is a nuisance.

I haven't had a pair of shoes with laces for I don't know how long. Velcro straps now.

They should be more common.

Only 100 hours of study over 2 years. No wonder these studies are so expensive.

My shoelaces would come untied even if I double knotted them. When I broke my arm and could not tie anything, my shoe store owner got me elastic shoestrings, put them in my shoes and adjusted them for me. Haven't had a bit of trouble since.

A simple and effective solution...I'm the same way.

I wear steel toe boots. All the time. In the field and also to church. I don't own any other kind of shoe. I have three good pair of boots for church and three for the field. When one of the field boots wears out (happens once or twice a year) one of the good pair steps in. The field boots take a beating and look like it. In the fall, the boots are wet from dew about 20 minutes after I put them on, and they stay wet all day. That's why I have 3. It gives a pair a couple days to dry out before I wear them again.

I used to double knot them all the time to keep them from untying. When I just tied them they would stay tied for maybe an hour. Double knotting solved that and they would stay tied all day and they were a PITA to untie. When I saw that article I changed the way I tie my boots. Now I just tie them the new way and they stay tied most of the time. I can go for a week or two without the boots untying themselves, and I can untie them easily. It's not perfect, the boots can still come untied, but much less often than they did before.

It's the difference between tying a square knot and a granny knot.

I have been tying my shoes for something like 75 years now and it has been tough re-learning how to do it. It's really not that hard, but that old memory that's in my fingers and not my head persists. My head can still learn new things but it takes my fingers a lot longer to learn it. I have to hesitate slightly before the last part of the knot to think about which way to go.

My fingers really do have a memory. My fingers know my computer password, wheras my brain doesn't. I have a really hard time remembering my computer password but my fingers just snap to it and it goes right in. If I have to tell someone what my computer password is, it's a struggle.

My advice to all you young whippersnappers out there is to learn to tie your shoes right. Before you go screwing up all your fingers by not training them to do it right.

I don't have to untie them at all. Since they are elastic, my tennis shoes just slip on and off easily.

The Lock Laces is what I have in my shoes. Love them! They are great, esp for anyone having an arm/hand injury.
