And THEN - we would be responsible for providing for all those hungry masses of starving, uneducated people! Better to maintain the status quo - but it would be great if China could smack fat boy around a little bit...

South Korea does not have uneducated people. It is the most technical country in the world and their children spend up to 12 hours a day in school.

It is virtually impossible to start a nuclear war.Every country knows that there can be no winners. It is a great deterrent.

That opinion may be diminishing. The Cuban Crisis in 1962 was the closet the USA got to a nuclear war with Russia. Sanity prevailed. As for Kim Jong Un of North Korea, we are still trying to analyze his mind. A human mistake can start a nuclear war. An insane mistake. Kim doesn't have nuclear warheads yet. That's the good news. So far.

It always staggers me that the people of N.Korea is a paradise and the US is peopled by viscous killers. The vast number o N.Koreans don't know what a computer is. Place an average N. Korean in any town in the US and they wouldn't believe the "wealth" that is here. They would think that it was a setup and would not believe it. The obvious contempt that the ruling class in N.Korea has for the citizenry should not be tolerated by the other countries of the world.

Why do you say that? Didn't he just have talks with China to ask for their help to keep NK under control? I think Trump, and everyone under him, would like to avoid a conflict. We aren't looking to start any fights, just limit them.

I didn't mean our leaders were unstable and looking for trouble. That's why I said, "This latest Korean leader is the worst in years." I was responding to the OP's comment, " There has to be a peaceful solution to this crisis."

The only good option would be to wait for the next Military Parade and then let a couple of MOAB bombs fall from the sky. Sounds inhumane and many would die but it would put the world at ease and possibly save many millions of lives. The Kim despot now in power is without morals and needs to disappear.

It is worrisome that the quirky and inconsistent POTUS has a carrier fleet in easy striking distance of No.Korea. In a fit of some pique, he could set this off. Yes: we would win but Seoul might become a wasteland and after it is quickly over, we would inherit millions of starving No. Koreans and a country currently in a horrible mess. How much have we spent of Iraq and Afghanistan - in the trillions - and do we want to take over another mess.

It is China that would be swarmed with millions of North Korean refugees. Hundreds of Thousands have escaped there already. They generally keep the women and send or sell them to work factories, or make them wives to Chinese men. The men are returned home, unless they can find some underground agency to help them get to South Korea. Or Asylum elsewhere. Many live in South Korea under a new identity.

Countries have been trying to subdue Afghanistan for over one hundred years.

Life has to be pretty bad when you want to "escape" to China.

That's the problem - when a country makes China look appealing. It was nice for when I went on a tour, but living there 24/7?

North Korea, the most isolated country in Asia, has allowed Western Journalists to report on the birthday celebration and founder of the Communist Nation. Grandfather of the current leader. The Military Parades and ceremonies are indeed impressive. North Korea has a million man standing Army. President Eisenhower ended the Korean War. I visited the Korean and Vietnam Memorials in DC in 2015. I know some Korean War Veterans today. Here we go again. There has to be a peaceful solution to this crisis. Somehow, someway.
